Clay Cooley Volkswagen of Richardson - Richardson / Texas

    Dealer Review:

I have been trying to get a warranty refunded for a year. Clay Cooley has been hostile the whole time. We just filed a complaint with the State of Texas. Here is our experience. We filed a hostile dealership form with the warranty company, who has since refunded clay cooley and they have NOT PASSED THIS MONEY BACK TO US. I purchased a car with Clay Cooley Richardson on 8/5/17, I was upsold into also purchasing: - an AWS extended warranty [$3854], and, - an AWS maintenance agreement [$700]. When I was able to research the two agreements I realized I was still under manufacturers warranty so did not need an extended warranty and the maintenance agreement was far more expensive than paying for maintenance with a genuine mini dealership. I gave written notice to cancel both contracts (via email) on 8/15/17 @ 8:47am I followed up on a response to that cancellation email on 8/15/17 @ 9:47pm I followed up again by email on 8/18/17 I followed up again by email on 8/23/17 Through this period and the end of 2017 I routinely called Clay Cooley and was repeatedly assured that the cancellations had been sent and that service cancelations just take months to process. Despite asking I was never provided with any evidence they had processed the cancellation In early 2018, I visited the dealership in person and was greeted by a new finance manager who filled in the cancellation backdated to the initial notice date and faxed it to the service providers. Again I saw no refund at my end and repeatedly called Clay Cooley to be assured it takes time for cancellations to be processed. Finally, around May 2018 I researched and called the service providers [The Warranty Group] directly and discovered that both policies were still active and they had no record of ever receiving a cancellation notice. On 5/12/18 I sent the cancellation form from the dealership to their claims department, who forwarded me to the accounts department who assisted me with doing a customer initiated cancellation. I provided all required documentation for the customer initiated cancellation on 5/14/18 and received confirmation they had been canceled on 5/18/18 with the refund credited to the dealership as they were unable to directly refund to my finance. I called and contacted through their website Clay Cooley to inform them of the cancellation. I also gave notice to my finance in case they could assist the process. When I saw no refund forthcoming, I again repeated called Clay Cooley to follow up. I also followed up with the service providers and requested a receipt for the cancelation on 7/23/18 and was provided one on 7/30/18 I visited the dealership in person again on 8/10/18 and was assisted by a finance team member, however, they claimed not to have access to see why the refund had not been processed. Following up today they have left the company and their contact details disconnected. That pretty much sums up my experience with Clay Cooley. I would be surprised if even 50% of my calls have been answered, and then usually only by a receptionist that has forwarded me to a number that has rung out. I have left dozens of voicemails which have never been returned. Their only email contact information is through a form on their website which has always been responded to by calls from their sales team who quickly hangs up when you ask to be forwarded to finance/accounts. I have never recieved a call from finance/accounts either in response to contact from me or reaching out to me to help close out this matter by email or phone call. The few times I have visited in person, the person I met with has left the company within a few weeks.

Mondial Auto Sales - Arlington / Texas

Located 19 miles away from Dallas, TX

    Dealer Review:

My son bought a car from Mondial (8/27/18) to take back and forth to college in Waco. We eventually spoke with Sam who was very friendly and seemed to show great concern for my son's well being, citing his son who was at the office who was going to Baylor (close to where my son was going) for medical school and how he wanted to make sure the car ($3,500) was in tip top condition. He kept the car a few extra days as "he wanted to treat my son as his own and make sure the car is good". We explained that my son was starting school on Monday and we needed to have it by Saturday we were assured that the 3 days would be enough time to get it ready. Unfortunately, he was not able to get the car ready in time and I had to drive my son to school for the first day. When we got there and spoke with Sam, he bragged about all of the things he did to it (his mechanic was flubbing around for some reason that is now clear) and that the price was now $3,800 due to all of the work he did to it. My son couldn't miss school so were forced to buy the car...and at that time we were also informed about the "binding arbitrary agreement" that we were required to sign as well. My son gave him $3,841.72 in cash, which was the culmination of 3 years of mowing grass and working a part time job and shook Sam's hand. Sam wished him well on his school journey. Approximately 2 weeks later, my son calls to tell me that the car had broke down on the side of the road and would not start. Sam had informed me that it was probably a sensor control issue, so over the next few days as time permitted we replaced the 4 of them, however, the car still would not start. Since this was out of my expertise, I hired an independent mechanic to look at the car and was told IMMEDIATELY that the car's timing chain had broke, further that since it was a chain (and not a belt) and in looking at the car closer, it was obvious that whoever sold me the car knew about it (chains do not just break) and its a "common" scam to get rid of cars. The mechanic felt so bad about how Sam screwed my son over that he REFUSED to take payment for the diagnosis (he is a mobile mechanic) and gave me an attorney's name/number and a sworn statement. Not wanting to believe someone that said that he viewed my son as his own and created a feeling of family (as noted by other older comments), I called and left a number of messages to talk to him about what could be done to fix it. When I FINALLY reached him and explained the series of events (and I so wish I would have recorded this because I wouldn't believe it if you said it to me), he said that I could bring it in, but because it was one of two types of engines, the engine was destroyed and it would cost more to replace than it was worth. The way he rattled this information off, it was obvious he KNEW that the timing chain was ready to go and was looking for a sucker (my son) to dump it off. He then said that he will check on something and call me back. I called around and got quotes around $3000 JUST for the belt, the engine, etc would be more. ALL future calls left for him have went un-returned. I left messages on the recorder, cell phone, with his son.......... and nothing. I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt and even in light of the evidence to the contrary say he did NOT know that the chain (not belt) was ready to break and do a split the difference and at least try to be fair about an unfortunate incident. But his actions (rather inaction) tells me that he took advantage of my son. Since my son was in such a pinch having to drive 200 miles a day for school, I ended up junking the car at a loss of over $2,800 and bought him a car from a reputable dealer. Believe whatever you would like from this event, but I have researched the arbitration document I was "forced" to sign. That document signs away MOST of my rights to go after him, it takes the control of this matter going to a court (which we all know who would win given the facts) to a company that HE decides (shocker on how they will vote). PLUS, instead of the process being court(aka minimal fees) and being able to do discovery, etc. YOU (not he) has to pay A LOT of money to go through binding arbitration. AND when (not if) you lose, you then have to pay his attorney fees as well. Its a win win for car dealerships, but HORRIBLE for average consumers like my son. Again, believe WHATEVER you want, I would just BEG anyone that after reading this that would still would buy a car from this company to REFUSE to sign the binding arbitration agreement (IT IS NOT REQUIRED BY STATE LAW AS I WAS TOLD). At least if something happens, you won't be in the same position my son is in. The two vehicles that I bought around the same time for my son and myself didn't even bring that up (and oddly enough, they are both running just fine). The good of this is that my son learned a VERY valuable lesson that day, not all fathers have the same integrity.

My first VW
stlpilot,05/13/2017
I am writing this review after driving this GTI for a full two years. I purchased this car slightly used with 20k miles on it after driving a Camry for over ten years. After two years of owning it, it still puts a smile on my face while I drive it. It is a lot of fun to drive and surprisingly it has a lot of utility for such a small car. The GTI is a fast and nimble car, performing better at highway speeds and on twisty roads, than at low speeds. It is a great all around car, balancing the fun factor, with the ability to load it up with four or five people, and the ability to put down the seats and load it up at the Home Depot. I occasionally find new features on it and I'm constantly surprised how much I can put inside of it. The best features I like about it are: the sound system on my fully loaded GTI is amazing along with comfortable seats. Only few negatives, but keep in mind I owned a Toyota for ten years. As with any German car, this GTI is a little overengineered so simple car maintenance may be overcomplicated. The spark plugs and the DSG need to be maintained every 40k miles or so. Lastly, I'm not overly happy about putting premium fuel in my everyday car. Overall, this is neat car, which is super easy to park, with lots of power. I understand why there aren't too many GTIs on the road though - most Camry/Accord drivers would never appreciate a car engineered for the car enthusiasts. This is an update to my original review. I'm currently at about 60k miles. I'm still extremely happy with the car. No mechanical issues. I highly recommend this car. At this point, my VW has been more reliable than the Toyota Camry I drove before. The fit and finish is excellent.
