It's been already 7 years with the GTI (6M, Autobahn). It is my daily commuter. Also, I often use the GTI for road trips with the entire family. Quite a few times, I've been window shopping for a 2 series or a golf R. But this car has been aging really well. She remains very playful and practical. It turns out I can't give her away. Three years ago, I added an APR stage 1 tune... fell … in love all over again. I had to upgrade to an RSR clutch due to the increased torque. The car still makes me giggle every time I put my foot down. Overall, the interior remains in outstanding condition with absolutely no squeaks (and germanic fit and finish). I've had minor issues with the only thing being oil changes every 7,000 miles. The only thing that broke was the water pump at 40k (known issue). Preventative maintenance included replacing timing chain tensioner, diverter valve, coil pack and plugs (the latter three updates are related to the tune). Recently, I updated my infotainment with an Alpine system to bring CarPlay functionality and 'modernize' the interior. I could easily install the system myself and the infotainment is fully integrated with the Dynaudio amplifier and the steering controls. In conclusion, take care of her and you'll end up having a practical fun little car. As Jeremy Clarkson said: "For me this car is perfect. And if you’re honest, it’s perfect for you too."
