Was in the market for a "new" used vehicle and had narrowed it down to a Toyota Camry. Visited a couple Toyota dealers in the Phoenix area and was a bit overwhelmed at the prices they had even with the current economic conditions and "inflation" taken into consideration. One dealer still had the old school sales tactics that is such a turnoff. I was surprised they didn't try to "misplace" my keys to keep me held hostage on the lot. Needless to say I was a bit discouraged I would find a Camry at a decent price and somewhere I won't reach my boiling point dealing with the sales and finance staff. I then remembered my last experience an Autonation Chevrolet. It was very pleasurable from the up front, no nonsense pricing of the vehicles to the honesty, no pressure tactics of the staff. I googled to see if there was an Autonation Toyota dealer in the Phoenix area. Lo and behold there was one. At the same time I was looking on Edmunds.com since they have a very nice and intuitive search engine that will look at all cars available in the Phoenix area. The best prices were coming back to Autonation Toyota. So I headed to Tempe to the Autonation Toyota one afternoon hoping to find something good. As will most dealers, they were hurting for most new cars in stock. The lot had a few used Camry's but not to my liking. One of the salemen found me wondering the lot and chatted about the lack of inventory. He then recalled that a new used Camry had just made it to the dealership. We found it and it was pretty much what I was looking for: very low miles, CPO (Certified Pre-Owned), newer year (2021) and most importantly a good price. At least as good a price a used vehicle can be in 2022. Honestly the price was pretty much the best I found on Edmunds. There were older and higher mileage Camrys listed for $2k to $4k more at other dealers. And many of them were not CPO. Went into the dealership to discuss the figures and see what we were looking at. Again all pricing was upfront: car price + dealer tint + taxes & fees. I knew the final figure i was looking at. None of the smoke and mirrors such as "we can get you at $xxx per month" without knowing how much you're actually financing. I was already preapproved from my financial institution so that made things even easier. Shook on it and then I just had to meet with the finance guy and sign papers. Waited while they drafted up the paperwork and finally met with the finance guy. The only demerit would be the amount of pressure from the finance guy in regard to selling the Toyota Extended Service Plan. After some back and forth and saying NO on my part, the price of the Service Plan was dropped by more than half. So my advice is if your the type to buy the extended plans, certainly either negotiate the price or decline it and the price will magically come down. Do NOT pay full price for the plan. Once we got past that we signed all the necessary papers and I took delivery of the new car. Once again not only did I get a FANTASTIC price, but Autonation provided a great experience in car buying. I highly recommend any Autonation dealer for a great price and even greater car buying experience.
