2018 Toyota Corolla iM
Car is great. Although the engine may be just a little weaker than its quasi-hot hatch looks, I find that it is more than adequate for getting out of its own way and maintaining highway speeds for long road trips or getting up hills and actually feels a bit peppier than the Corolla Sedan, even with the CVT, even clocking at just over a second faster than the 2018 Corolla XSE sedan on … the 0-60 (9.8sec vs 8.7 for the iM, or 12 seconds on the non XSE Sedans). Sporting an upgraded suspension package from the sedan as well, it handle's surprisingly well for an econobox, with way less body roll and understeer than its shape might suggest. In addition, the car is very practical, with decent legroom for adults in the back, and really easy to fold down rear seats that make a really solidly sized cargo area for a compact car. Being a Corolla underneath of course makes for an endless array of aftermarket parts and modifications if you want just just a couple more horses, and incredibly reliable and easy to maintain + for those that are scared of the CVT (which is perfectly fine and reliable as long as you change the fluid level every 60k), it comes with a 6-speed manual option.
Although maybe not as quick or entertaining to drive as a mazda3 or a Civic hatchback, it is significantly cheaper than either of them, and also likely to have just a slight advantage on the reliability side. For containing as many features and little tinges of luxury that it does (owing to its single-trim marketing inherited from the Scion iM), the car is a tremendous value and a very solid and stylish daily driver.
