2024 Toyota bZ4X
I come from a Toyota family, but this is my first in years. I have been driving electric for over a decade and this is one of may favorite vehicles. When I test drove it back in August, it was like a homecoming. The handling was instantly familiar, and I knew before I got out of the drive way that I was going home with it.
I’ve had two BMW i3s, a VW eGolf, and a Volvo XC40 Recharge … AWD. I loved the maneuverability and fun of the i3, the power and luxury of the XC40, and I like the handling of the bZ4X.
Yeah, it’s not the 402 HP of the XC40, but do you really need that many ponies? You don’t, and 214 HP does everything you need if you aren’t towing anything. I miss the one pedal driving, but the regen is good enough to get you to almost OPD. The Toyota doesn't come to a complete stop on regen, which I think is a safety thing. You should hold the break when you stop and this makes sure you do.
The Limited comes with many of the same features as the XC40, including the safety features.
The interior is fun and easy to keep clean. I have two big dogs, one a Husky mix who sheds like mad, so being able to keep the interior clean is important. That is the single reason I didn’t keep the XC40. The interior wasn’t dog owner friendly.
The one thing I miss that the i3 and XC40 did, climate control with the vehicle off. I can't leave my dogs in the bZ4X, without turning the vehicle on and that means I can't lock it. Granted, my two 75 lbs dogs are a theft deterrent. I would just feel better if I could run the climate controls and lock my vehicle so I can take my dogs with me on errands.
I love this EV and unless they come up with a model that has significant improvement in range, I expect to hold onto this one.
