Found an Alfa Romeo Stelvio online that was for sale at Palmetto Alfa Romeo. Started speaking to my salesperson on Monday 3/8. Expressed my desire to purchase one of the particular models on their lot. I was very specific when telling him my finance requirements, and shared that I was able to obtain a low interest rate at my bank. Explained that if they could not beat the rate then I would obtain my own financing. Scheduled a visit for Wednesday of that week, and explained to him that it is a 3 hour drive one-way from where I live. Touched base again with him on Tuesday, specifically telling him that if we could not make the numbers work on a deal for the vehicle that I was interested in, that I would not be traveling over 6 hours to their dealership. He replied with a number that was not satisfactory – and when I declined the offer he asked where I wanted to be on the deal. I was very specific and he called me back to say that they would be able to make it work for the number I was willing to pay. I reiterated the terms and rate of the loan to which he verified that was what they were agreeing to. I asked if I should start a credit application to which he assured me it would all be taken care of the next day. Wednesday morning, I drove 3+ hours to Miami to sign paperwork and take delivery. Upon my arrival the vehicle I had been speaking to him about was filthy, sitting 6 cars deep on the lot. I was a bit perturbed that he had not bothered to even make the vehicle presentable or ready for a test drive, but started the buying process anyway. After over an hour of reaching out to Experian to get a credit lock taken off of my account so that they could run an application (which would have been easier dealt with the day before, as I had suggested) they began getting the car ready and arranging the paperwork to close the deal. I was finally taken in to sign the paperwork and was almost completed with signing when it came to the sales contract. The finance manager correctly pointed to the amount of my payment and the first due date. He did not go over the interest rate or the term of the loan. Upon looking over the document myself I realized that they were charging me an additional 2.89% interest as well as elongating the loan by 2 years!! When I pointed to the error the manager stated that was what I had agreed to. I had to literally take my phone out and bring up the text messages that I had with my salesperson to get him to stop arguing with me. He then came back with the original number that they had called me with the day before - the figure that I specifically told the salesperson I would not make the drive for. So, in other words, they wasted an entire day of my life trying the old bait and switch. The finance manager finally brought in the sales manager as well as my salesperson. The sales manager admonished the salesperson right in front of me and told him to go home. Never once did the sales manager or salesperson apologize for wasting my time or attempting to deceive me. The finance manger kept hacking at his senseless number until I had had enough of the [non-permissible content removed] and left. Never received a follow up phone call, text message, apology – Nothing! On my way back home, I stopped at Naples Motorsports (an authorized Alfa Romeo dealer) to look at a similar vehicle. Within two hours Naples had made a very reasonable deal, completed all of the paperwork and had me on my way home in my new vehicle! I ended up paying $12,000 less than what Palmetto was offering me – that’s correct – not a typo…$12,000 LESS!! Do yourself a favor and find someone other than Palmetto Alfa Romeo to entrust your car buying experience. I highly recommend Ron at Naples Motorsports!!!

Dealer Review:

This dealership moves a lot of used cars and occupies a large space in the heart of West Palm Beach. At initial glance, our price was very attractive on the vehicle we were looking for and considered a "great deal" by more than one major car sales sites. Unfortunately, the hard fees shown in the fine print does not tell the whole story. After you arrive and take your test drive, you will realize that dealer addons such as window etching, headlight buffing and nitrogen tires add almost $2k to the listed price. Worst for us was an over $1500 "reconditioning" fee on our low mileage car, which may have been real or may have been imaginary, because our rep was not sure what was done to the vehicle to recondition it. We ourselves did not notice anything new on the vehicle among the common wear parts typical of the vehicle's mileage, hmmm. Given these additional costs and over $1k in other fees means this car goes from a great deal to a barely fair deal quickly. Sadly, their BDC staff was unable to understand what "out the door price" meant and couldn't even explain to us that there were costs such as the "Dealer Advantage" fee and the "reconditioning" fee. If we had these costs in hand prior to arriving at the dealership, it would have caused us to pause and clarify if they were negotiable. If you love having to haggle back and forth with the sales rep trying to get through purchasing a car, then this dealership is for you. We had an advantage, since we had previous experience in many levels of auto retail and was familiar with much of the ancillary costs involved. Still, it was close to a four hour experience to complete our purchase which was extremely close to a price we considered "great" for the vehicle. If you want honest, up front pricing before even setting foot in the dealership, this might not be the dealership for you. If one had to pay the non-specific, hinted at additional fees, their prices would be worst than similar trim cars from a host of other sellers on Edmunds or other car sites. When shopping here, remember your Stephen Covey : "Start with the end in mind". Know what is a great/good/fair price for the model and trim that you want to buy. And stick to your guns, any dealer that starts off with deceptively not disclosing fees should give you pause before you even start negotiations. Stay level headed, and don't be afraid to ask questions on every line item and have it well spelled out for you. Remember that DMV fees are actually relative cheap and there is no law limiting the amount dealers can charge you for completing and filing documentation.

Dealer Review:

First of all, I try to stay away from Miami-Dade county because it is the scam capital of the state. With that being said, I found a good deal on a 2007 Ford Explorer with only 65K miles, found the vehicle on autotrader.com, I call the dealer and spoke to Chris at the internet department, I asked him if the vehicle was available, they said it was, I asked them if the car was indeed $9990, they said yes, I asked him what were the dealers fee and any other fees, they told me the dealers fee was $899. I asked him again if there are any other fees, he then asked me if I had a tag, which I told him I did, he responded: all you have to pay is taxes, and tag transfer, ok so I told him if Im doing the math right the car will be around $12000 out the door, he did confirm that this was the ball park figure out the door for the car, Ok so I went ahead and booked an appointment for Sunday. That night I convinced my wife who does not like to drive on I-95, to take the Tri-Rail south, so we could go get the vehicle. Left home at 11am, We arrived at the dealer at 2:30pm, the dealer is under construction, so the Uber driver dropped us off on the Ford side, we had to walk thru the construction site, over to the Nissan side, this is where we met Gene, the salesman. First thing he said to me is I have someone coming down from Jacksonville, I said Ok thats fine but I have an appointment to buy the car, he said the guy had put a $100 down payment, I said Ok so is the car not for sale, he said yes it is but lets look at the numbers, ok, he says to me that the car is not $9990, the car is indeed $12990, because I did not click, a 6pt size link below the price, that stated that this price was if I trade in a 2008 or newer vehicle and I financed the car, so I said to him, im buying a 2007 and you want me to trade in a 2008? He said he didn't make the rules, then he said that Chris forgot to inform me that there was an additional administrative fee of $675, at this point I lost it, I told him that I had not even driven there, I had taken the train there with my wife so I could drive the car back home, he said that he had already a good deal on the table from the guy driving down from Jacksonville, unless I took the deals at $15000 and change it was not going to happen. So here it is this is what happened to me yesterday 5/16/21, this was the most unprofessional business encounter I have ever received and this is the main reason I am writing this lengthy review, they bait and switched me once I arrived, and took an opportunity when they saw that I had arrived on an Uber and not my own vehicle. I will never buy a vehicle from this people and you shouldn't buy one either.
