Long life, cheap maintenance

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix
I purchased an 06 Pontiac grand prix base model in 2017. When I bought it, it had 130k miles. It currently has 260k miles. I drive the heck out of this car--even during the icy cold Wisconsin winters. So far I've replaced brakes, calipers, power steering pulley, spark plugs, wheel hub assemblies in the front, struts, control arm, and 1 battery. This car had harrowing moments on two … wheels to avoid an accident that surely would have killed me--and all it cost was $1500 in repairs (the aforementioned struts, wheel bearings, and control arm), the wheel bearing hub assemblies are easy enough to do yourself if you're mechanically inclined. I have asked a LOT of this car. More than most. Generally speaking, she has on all levels out performed other vehicles I've had, with sole exception of my 1993 pontiac grand prix. My VW Cabrio lasted less than a year. My Taurus only 2 years. I'm hard on cars. If you drive a lot, 20k+ miles a year, and you want a comfortable drive, good handling and basic maintenance that wont break the bank, the grand prix is an excellent choice.
If you want a performance vehicle with superior handling and options for customizing and mods, the grand prix is a good choice.
If you want a simple, no frills point a to b commuter/family sedan, it's still a good choice.
Maybe you just want a cheap car for a new driver to learn on that wont be expensive to insure? This car is a great option for that too.
Generally, my basic maintenance involves oil changes and fluid top offs. I replace the brake pads about once a year--if you dont drive that much, they'll probably last a lot longer. No one thing by itself has been particularly expensive to fix and fixes are not needed all the time. It's a decent, reliable vehicle and I'm still sad that they will not be making more of these cars.
