Carvana - New York City - New York City / New York

Located 13 miles away from Newark, NJ

    Dealer Review:

I tried to purchase a Sierra Denali from Carvana. I was approved thru my credit union at a lower rate than what Carvana offered and my credit union mailed me my check. Carvana sold the vehicle while I was processing my purchase and I ended up buying another truck locally at a dealer. On Black Friday I tried to give them another chance and tried to purchase a Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen for my son. I filled out all the bank info with a $2000 deposit and the balance $12000 would come from my credit union. I signed all the paperwork online and scheduled a delivery date for 2 weeks later. 3 days after my online purchase, I kept getting texts stating that I would lose the $1000 Black Friday discount if they didn't have a copy of my check from the credit union sent over to them by 8pm that evening. I had already provided Carvana with my credit union information, account, as well as authorized them to verify my fund for both the deposit and the balance. They stated some bogus "guideline in underwriting," that this wasn't enough. So I said no problem, in the morning, we can get on a 3 way call and speak to both my bank and my credit union and they can provide verification. They said unfortunately, the price would go up $1000 if this was the case as there was an expiration date on the black Friday discount. I even offered, a screen shot of my credit union account, showing my loan was already funded via a check and my first payment was due in January, but they still said this was not acceptable. It seems they make it hard for you to complete a transaction with a discount and wanted to revert back to a no discount transaction stating there was not enough time to verify funds (really? I didn't set up delivery for 2 weeks exactly because I knew it would take time for my credit union to mail me a check). Their customer service rep Ally escalated the conversation to TJ her "manager" who was very smug and thought that when he strutted his "manager" title I would be impressed. I explained that I was buying from Carvana for the "convenience and hassle free process they claim to have" but yet will not hold a car even with a $2000 deposit for more than 24 hours unless you finance though them and since you are using a "3rd party" credit union (that has much lower rates than them for folks with great credit), their guidelines were different. To me it was simply a bait and switch, "buy at this price one day but the price will change a few days later after they had extracted all your personal financial information. Never again. I requested they cancel my order. Their prices are the same as car dealerships and as much as some folks think dealerships are tough to deal with, Carvana employs people who know nothing about customer service. There is no advantage in buying from them than from a dealership. In fact I would much rather deal with real people whom I can evaluate if they are trustworthy and be able to choose to do business with them or not. The fact that they are an internet dealership only empowers them to hide in anonymity when they try to treat you unscrupulously. Do yourself a favor buy your next vehicle the old fashioned way, find someone who you can meet in person and trust. Buying a car are stressful to some, Carvana will only make you more stressful and offer no advantage in pricing or service. If this is how you are treated when you are trying to buy a vehicle from them, imagine what will happen if there is a problem with your car/truck! Poor service in the beginning will translate to worse service when you need it. I hope you read all the other negative reviews on Yelp and other rating sites and see Carvana for what it really is.

    Dealer Review:

Unfortunately there is no 0 star possible, which is what this dealership deserves. Never step inside this store. The internet sales person (Stacia) gave us a stock and a price on a Nissan Rogue SV- Premium package around 4.30PM and suggested that we should come that same night to talk to her sales folks. We got there at 7,00 PM based on our phone conversation. They made us wait for 45mts to inform us that they do not have the car and that it was sold and it pulled out of lot just when we entered. What a lie!!! Do they not have to do any prep work, paper work? Assuming they had sold, should they not have the courtesy to call and let me know not to come? I had to drive close to an hour to get their at 7PM. Stay away from their sales team and the internet sales team. All are a bunch of liars. Very unprofessional folks. Besides they gave me a price on another car that is expected in the next couple of weeks which was way off the price they had quoted, for a comparable MSRP. Regarding the lease price, they are out of their mind. Never believe them. Just stay away from this dealership. If you use them, do not go their till they send you some sort of confirmation in writing with regard to the price of purchase or lease. Bunch of [non-permissible content removed]. Specially Stacia who is their internet sales person.

    Dealer Review:

One of the worst dealer ship I have ever visited. They put a Nissan certified car on their website. It was priced for $14000. I booked an appointment via internet. Sarah later called and booked the appointment. I asked her clearly what are the "additional" charges other than $14000. She said motor vehicle registration fees + sales tax + documentation fees$419. When I reached the dealership, I met Evgeny, he helped me to review the car to my satisfaction. I took some time to review the car. Throughout this process I asked him the same question couple of times- what are the additional charges? He said the exact same thing Sarah said. I almost decided to buy the car because the pricing looked ok to me. The only thing that was annoying to me was that the steering wheel was vibrating even while driving. So I thought to have it inspected by an independent mechanic. So I took time off from my office and took the car to pep boys auto near to their dealer in route 440. I spent $93 dollars for it. While we were waiting at pep boys, I asked him again what are the additional fees to ensure I am not ripped off at the end. He said the same thing. I was even asking if few hundred dollars discount could be provided on $14000 just to have some satisfaction. He said, it is already at a low price, the dealership will not provide more discount. Now the dealer and him know that I want this car because I spent some money on it. Now the ripping off comes, we sat for final formalities. Now Evgeny adds an "additional" $1850 saying that cost is for certification which was never told to me. I asked him, "why you didn't tell me??!" He says "you never asked me!" . What??? How many times would I ask... Then some rude guy, I think he is manager there, he started negotiating to me that, this is the price, it is at market price and even if you trade in you will get the same price and adding the usual dealer stories that someone is already waiting for this car. He was very rude that he keeps saying that he sold so many used cars and that I am giving hard time and asking me to either buy or leave. The treatment was absolutely rude. I felt that they are hiding so many things. I wasted around hundred dollars unnecessarily!!! which they did not bother to refund. I would strongly suggest everyone not to go to this shop unless you are ready to accept surprises, extra prices and most of all the worst experience/ treatment that a customer had to endure.i was in a complete mental stress after going through this.

Major World - Long Island City / New York

Located 12 miles away from Newark, NJ

    Dealer Review:

Our experience at Major World was horrible from start to finish. Most importantly: NEVER work with Ismael "Lefty" Cardona. He is the definition of a sleezy, slick, used car salesman - and incredibly rude to boot. We explained to him that we were looking for a used car that would last for 6 months (anything after that would be a bonus). As we grew frustrated with our experience with him, we told him we were going to leave without buying anything. He then assured us he had the perfect car for us. The car he showed us seemed fine. While we were there, Ismael had it inspected by a supervisor, a mechanic, and put in through a NY State inspection. He continued to assure us everything was fine. Two days later, the battery died on the car. When I called Ismael to express my frustration, he told me I could bring the car in over the next weekend to replace the new battery at no cost. I called the following weekend just to make sure it was an OK time to bring the car in. Ismael said, "Do you want me to tell you the truth? Service is closed on the weekends." He refused to help me by providing any towing services for the car or any willingness to work around our work schedules. He then put the phone on mute, so he could deal with another customer/colleague who was clearly in front of him. At that point, I'd had enough and asked my boyfriend for a pen so that I could take down the name of this [non-permissible content removed] supervisor. Ismael quickly came back on the line, accused me of calling him a "[non-permissible content removed] ," refused to give me his supervisor's name and hung up. When I finally identified and spoke to his supervisor, Jed, I described our experience and expressed my utter disappointment with the whole process. I told Jed that I would prefer to take our car to a shop I trusted - as I did not believe Major World would do right by us. I asked him to comp me a monthly payment (equal to $120 - less than the price I'd been quoted for the cost of a new battery + labor + taxes). He refused. He said he would speak to Ismael about his rudeness - I know he won't. I'm sure when I take this car into the shop I trust, there will be numerous other things wrong with the car. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would - the place, and its employees, are that disgusting.
