2008 Lexus GS 460
Quality is good overall, but not as good as the 2001 GS430 we owned before. Fairly quick sport sedan. On hard acceleration, you can feel the lag while the computer tries to configure cam timing, fuel mapping, etc. The GS engine is de-tuned 40 hp from the LS460 version, so there is 10% left on the table; seems like a waste. Ten-quart oil changes are a little costly, but maybe that allows … for a “reserve” since the engine uses 2+ quarts in a 5,000 mile service interval. New spark plugs at 120,000 miles pepped it up some. Failed ignition coil at 128,000 was a surprise. I really expected more than that from Lexus, but it’s still a decent car I suppose. ABS unit failed at 154,000 miles. $3000 for a new part, has to be programmed with special software to bleed brakes. Forget about a used one; they all fail, apparently. Complete BS. I couldn’t see putting $4,000 in a car worth $5,000 fixed, so traded in on a 2019 CPO NX300.
