2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
Bought this Jeep in September, and a few weeks into it, the driver's seat lumbar and cushion extension started creaking like a 20 year old car. Auto folding mirrors will unfold when ignition turned on, like they should, but will only fold back when door locked. Not a big deal. I was going to take it in to have them look at it. Until last week. My wife got into the car and it wouldn't … start. Then the digital dash lit up like a Christmas tree, with all sorts of warnings, the interior lights started flashing, uconnect screen froze. Then the car died. I tried Assist button but nothing. Somebody else in a review said uconnect doesn't exist yet for this Jeep. I hope that's not true. That was a deal breaker when I bought the car! Called Jeep break down and they sent a guy with jump leads. A guy in a car with jump leads, not a tow truck. He was nice, and eventually he got it going. It didn't want to kick over at first. He said this wasn't a battery issue and it was the electrics and to get it to a dealer. Two days later, I took it in. The service advisor said this is the second one they've had in. This is my local dealer, not where I bought the car. Turns out, it was the sales manager form the dealership where I bought the car who had taken in his Jeep for the exact same reason as me.
I wasn't offered a loaner car so we rented one for a few days. When the rental manager asked what brought us in today, I explained. He said they had two of the new Jeeps and both of them broke down with around a hundred miles on them. He thought the renters were doing something wrong. He realized that it wasn't them after I explained what had happened to mine.
This seems to be a major problem with the electrics in the new car, that Jeep knows about. They're keeping quiet about it, and fixing it when people bring the car in with faults instead of recalling them. The quality is very poor on this vehicle. We sold our 2017 Pacifica that felt like it was built like a tank. This car doesn't. But that's not the problem. The car breaking down is. I had it for 10 weeks with 556 miles on the clock before it died. I did a search online and found that older Grand Cherokee's sometimes had creaking seats with the lumbar support loose in them. This car is awful. I agree with another reviewer - Jeep rushed this car out. And people who bought them are the Guinea Pigs. When I first drove another model, it was waiting for a software update because the screen was in French! I deeply regret buying this car, but as soon as I get it back, I'm going to hit the assist button, and there better be somebody there waiting to talk to me!
** UPDATE **
The assist button did work. I also forgot to mention before - when the tailgate is coming down, it will give out a few beeps to warn you. One day I was taking bags out of the trunk and the tailgate came down with no beeps and hit me on the head! And it didn't feel like it was going to stop! I pushed up against it with my arm and then it went up. But we had a horrific incident with the car. Driving along at 30 mph, it was a short, quiet road that led to a main road, when all of a sudden there was a horrendous Bang! The car stopped dead, like we had hit a brick wall. I thought the transmission had exploded. Then I thought we'd maybe been rear-ended. Neither. The automatic emergency braking system kicked in despite there being no car, pedestrians or cyclists in front. Nothing near us at all. Neither was anything blown across out path (as the service advisor said might have happened. It wasn't windy that day!) We were badly shaken. I hate to think what would have happened if we'd been doing 65 mph on the highway at the time.
Took it into the dealer. The third time in 12 weeks. Of course they said, we couldn't replicate it, there are no service bulletins and no codes coming up. Their answer? Switch off the emergency auto braking! Why have such a feature if you have to drive with it switched off? Ludicrous. This car slammed the brakes on for no reason. This car could have gotten us killed. It's in our driveway now, and my wife never wants to drive it again. Time to contact a lemon lawyer.
