I tried to find out information about a vehicle before purchasing it. Communication from Shift was terrible. The associate I was in contact with was unresponsive. I later get a hold of someone else and the price had gone up. I explained that I was trying to purchase the vehicle but poor communication stopped it and I didn't want to pay $1k more out the door because of poor communication from Shift. The associate understood but needed her manager to adjust the price back. I checked throughout the day and the manager never responded to her. I would check back every couple of days and no response. The next weekend I used the chat feature on Edmunds to talk to another Shift employee about the issue. They took my information and said they would have someone contact me, that contact never came. I called again and got a Manager on the phone. I explained to him that the poor communication at Shift shouldn't cost me more money. He just kept quoting their policies. He spoke as if he was the manager that was supposed to get back to the second associate I contacted. I pointed out that he too didn't communicate with his associate about my case. I asked him how are customer's supposed to confidently purchase a car from an online company if the employees of that company are not communicating well with customers or each other. I pointed out that the car had been on Edmunds.com almost 2 months and this had probably happened to other customers or else it would have been sold.. He had no answer for me and ultimately said they would not honor the price I originally tried to purchase the car for. If they can't handle simple communication, then I may have dodged a bullet by not purchasing from them. If you are reading this you may want to consider avoiding issues by avoiding Shift.

Last month I was super excited about making my fourth Toyota purchase in 12 years but it was my first time purchasing at Victory Toyota at Seaside, Ca. I arrived at the dealership with having done research on the vehicle I wanted and knew exactly what I would drive off with and what it would cost me. I did a test drive then looked at the manufacturer suggested retail price which was clear in the asking price. The sales person told told me that the real price “ dealers asking price” was the price listed beside the manufacturer sticker, which had some overpriced unnecessary add-ons like, $200 wheel locks, $700 clear shield package, $300 nitrofill on the tires, $2000 ELO gps system (useless because it just tracks your vehicle and “gives dealer wireless access to diagnose your vehicle”). I demanded those add-ons to be removed but then they dropped the price to $300 for everything. When I got to finance the woman recommended that I purchase extended warranty and maintenance and some Doc Car membership that totaled up about $4,000. I agreed. Days later after I read the fine print and realize that the overall benefit was not worth the money and also considering that I have to return the car ONLY to there dealerships to get service done in order to not void terms and agreements clearly stated in the contract. I returned to the dealership to remove and requested refund since the purchaser has 30 days after purchase to get 100% refund. At that point every person I encountered told me I couldn’t cancel it until I showed them the signed contract that is enforceable by law. They refund me but were not happy about it. Later, not even one month after owning my Toyota the driver side power outlet goes out. I open the owner’s manual and check the recommended fuses to troubleshoot the issue, but the fuses were all good. I return to the dealership and they charge me $100 to look at the car for 5 mins and tell me that I must return in a few days to replace the power outlet and they told me that the issue was my fault so I will have to pay $70 for the outlet replacement plus $100 again for the install. I told them that I wanted them to file a manufacture warranty claim. They assured me they will. I returned for the repair and they replaced it in 10 mins then they told me that they processed the warranty claim but I still had to pay. I called Toyota experience line 1 (800) 331-4331 to confirm that the warranty claim was filed but it was not. I then escalated the issue directly with Toyota and gave them feedback on the dealer, service center and my new vehicle. This case is being investigated and I will update this review with any results. I will never return to Victory Toyota, Seaside, Ca or any of there other dealership to service or purchase a vehicle again. As a loyal Toyota brand owner with a lot of experience purchasing from multiple dealerships around the Bay Area I can say that this dealership isn’t living up to Toyota’s service experience and purchasing standards. They take advantage of peoples ignorance in lack of knowing about car repairs and sales and warranties. Some of the workers are nice people, like my sales person and the finance woman but the problem in my opinion starts with high level management. The workers just have to do as they are told which in my opinion is the root issue of the entire operation.

Dealer Review:

On 11/21/19 I purchased a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek at Hanley Toyota in Davis, CA. Caleb Hargreaves, who works in the finance department, completed the necessary paperwork to complete the transaction. During this process he sold me an 84 month extended warranty administered by Enterprise Financial Group, Inc. (EFG) for $3,446.00. This contract had a 30-day cancellation policy attached to it. On 11/30/19 I went to Hanley Toyota in Davis and talked to Caleb Hargreaves to cancel this warranty contract. Caleb filled out a Cancellation Request/Quote Form in which I have a copy. Caleb told me he would send the form to EFG and by my second monthly car payment (by February '20) it would show up as a credit. I called EFG on 02/19/20 to verify that the cancellation was submitted and being processed. EFG told me that they did not receive a cancellation request from Hanley Toyota. I then called and emailed Caleb on 02/20/20 and he told me that he sent it in but they must not have received it. Caleb asked me to send him via email my copy of the Cancellation Request/Quote Form to him and that he would send it to EFG immediately. On 02/25/20 I emailed Caleb to ascertain where we were in this cancellation process. He did not respond. I called EFG on 2/28/20 and they told me they had not received the cancellation form. I then called Hanley Toyota on 02/28/20 and talked to several managers (Late & Dave). Dave assured me he would expedite this matter being resolved. I feel Caleb was deceptive throughout this process. He told me that this process would take about 3 months before I saw a credit. When I called EFG they told me that it would take up to 3 business days to process the refund and 4-6 weeks to receive the refund. Upon reflection it appears to me that Caleb purposely delayed the process so that he could receive his commission check from EFG/Toyota. He obviously had no intention of sending EFG the cancellation form right away. And even after several phone calls and emails, he still refused to process the cancellation form.
