Used 2006 Toyota Tundra Consumer Reviews
06 Tundra lacks refinement
The SR5 has a particularly poor interior both materials quality and comfort level. The steering wheel is about 1 to 1 and a half inches offset from the center of the seat mostly an annoyance. The CD player was unable to play the disk that I routinely used in my other, old vehicles. The accelerator pedal is way too touch, a hallmark of this age of Toyota, it takes concentration to leave a light smoothly. Between the touchy accelerator and the light rear end it was hard to deal with any slick pavement and it tended to wander on dirt roads. The seat belt retraction lacked a decent return spring, the previous owner was not careful and as a result the belt tang had gouged the door sill multiple times from being caught when the door was closed. The engine is powerful but has a groaning sound, not pleasing at all, more like it is straining. At 10 years old and 40k miles the dealer informed me that it needed a timing belt every 8 years or 100,000 miles and while they are in there they like to replace the water pump since the Japanese engineers put the water pump behind the timing belt. That was a $1200 job. The water pump was leaking at 40,000 miles. My Dakota water pump lasted 120,000 miles and 14 years. When people brag about getting high mileage from these Tundras of this era be aware that according to Toyota you have about $1200 in maintenance for every 100,000 miles. I inherited this vehicle and traded it in within 2 years for GMC pickup.

exhaust leak 06 tundra
At 16,000 miles I heard a exhaust leak, more pronounced when the vehicle was cold. Sound like defective catylitic convertor issue. I have had it back 2 times at the same dealer I purchased it from they said on the second trip back, could I leave it for 24 hrs so they could test it to which I said yes. When I dropped it off I put a penny over the front tire. 24 hrs later they called me, stating they could not find anything. Guess what when I picked the truck back up it was in the same parking spot with the penney over the tire. What a test. If this is not corrected, my toyota buying days are over. My friend is a cheif mechanic at a gm dealer and agrees it has a exhaust issue.

Love my Tundra
This is an excellent, well built vehicle. It handles very well on or off road. Well worth the initial cost. I don't need to worry about it breaking down. Had a Dodge which does not even come close to comparison from the start (i.e. engine & transmission dependability even the first 100k miles). Everything, from how the doors fit shut to how it handles driving, it is a well built vehicle with a group of mechanics that take the time and effort to keep tight specs and pride in their work. The time spent for quality in product, logical engineering and not just pushing a product out the door to just make a buck has a great product being produced. Thank you Toyota, for the grand work!
Hawaiian Tundra
I love my Tundra. this is my favorite truck by far. I have owned other makes and models and this is my best one yet. I have no problem with the towing issues, and I tow 2 Motorcycles and carry 2 in the bed with 4 adult passengers every weekend. I use my truck every day and i love it. to me the other brands were too flamboyant and not enough attention on craftmanship. I will drive my Tundra for many years and be proud of it.
Love this Truck!
I've had this truck over a year now, love every time I drive it. Had access cab before, love the double cab and 4wd. Truck came with dealer 3" lift kit, TRD Off Road Pkg and over sized tires. Still drives awesome in city or highway and wife feels comfortable driving also. On nice flat roads with cruise control I'll get 20+mpg, I had to do the calcs twice to confirm. Plenty of room in back for my fellow softballers, headroom and leg room, no complaints. Installed hard cover on bed and love the locking tailgate, plenty of room for our ballbags.
