Vehicle2012 Toyota Prius Five 4dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
ReviewI was buying this model in February-March 2012, when neither diller, no Toyota website had the 2012 model description. I was told that the model is exactly as 2011. It turned out that there's single difference - parking assist was removed from 2012 model. Huge, huge disappointment!
Another minus is that Toyota, looks like intentionally!, overstates fuel economy. The car does regularly show 49 to 51 overall mpg, but the number is always (I mean ALWAYS) 2-2.5 mpg higher than reality (miles driven/number of galons filled in).
At 60mph the car shows speed 2mph higher than external GPSes. May be related to the previous.
Tires are bad, very noisy on hwy.
Hwy mpg is only about 40 at 70-75mph.

Worst Features1. tires are horrible! Almost third of interstate miles produces unbearable noise. 2. speedometer shows 1mph higher at 40mph and 2mph higher at 60+mph. 3. self-dimming rear view mirror could dim better 4. Horrible GPS. Must be replaced. May be horribly outdated, but there is no updates included, no way to check. It's simply unreliable 5. No speed-sensitive radio (?!) 6. trunk space is not rational. Spare tire is not necessary. 7. parking assist must be added

Ha! I get 90MPG going 88MPH! Did you try turning on the Flux Capacitor? Man, you must know very little about cars. Getting 40 at high rates of speed is very good. Try getting that in a larger vehicle. And, you have to change the DVD in the GPS if you want an update. However, Google Maps usually is better than most vehicle GPS anyways. And tell me how a spare tire is not necessary??? Let us know what happens when you're stuck somewhere with a flat tire. Lastly, GPS isn't real time, like the speedometer. However, sometimes, speedometers have to be calibrated. The best way to determine if you are truly off, is set cruise control to 60MPH, start your stopwatch when you pass a mile marker, and stop it when you pass the next one. If it didn't take you 60 seconds to go that mile, then you are off. A dealer should be able to adjust it. Lastly, this is a Toyota Prius. If you want a speed sensitive radio, a quiet cabin ride, and better tires, buy the Lexus Hybrid. This is a sub-30K car, meant for local commutes at an affordable price. I can definitely tell you that I don't get 40 mpg at 70 mph. I get more like 50 and 48 at 75.Report it
