Vehicle

2004 Toyota Prius 4dr Hatchback (1.5L 4cyl CVT)

Review

The Prius is an excellent choice if you
do mostly city driving. It averages 46
miles per gallon. The car is
surprisingly spacious and controls are
convenient and easy to use. Build
quality is high. However, the car is not
a good highway cruiser. At speeds over
60 miles per hour especially in windy
and wet conditions, the car has a very
unsteady feel. The power is ok but the
handling felt very "slippery" and thats
on pavement that was merely wet.

Best Features

Climate control, smart entry system, convenient steering column controls

Worst Features

Something needs to be done to improve this cars handling at highway speeds.Driver seat comfort could be improved. Its fine for short trips but once in the car for an hour or so....ouch

Review

I bought mine off the internet, sight unseen
in September, 2003. Why? Look at the
thing, it looks like the future! There are some
laws that autos have to obey: the law of
aerodynamics is expressed in drag
coefficience, and Prius has the lowest of
ANY production automobile. That means air
slips around the car, even the fully covered
undercarriage, and provides less drag=
better gas mileage. There is alot of talk
about hybrid gas/electric autos coming
along this summer in SUV's. Yeah, but
unless/until they reshape the vehicle and
reduce the weight, they will never match the
Prius for working WITH the laws of physics.

Best Features

You start by pressing the start button and I got the keyless entry system and it's a blast to open the car door and drive away without taking anyhing out of your pocket or purse.

Worst Features

Only one: when the door is opened in the rain, the water from the roof drips on the front seats. The Prius needs a rain gutter. Oh, yeah, it could come in other colors. I chose silver and all the ads show silver, becasue that's the best color for the Prius.

Review

The car has performed flawlessly and
without any problems (9k miles to date).
I had expectations of 45-55mpg city.
I am getting 40-45mpg and I do not know
if this my driving habits (I have a
lead foot sometimes).
I use my Prius as a commuter car
(45miles round trip daily) and I just
love the look and the drive.
I will never buy a non-hybrid again.

Best Features

The GPS system is great. The lack of mechanical switches and lever for A/C, Audio, etc also ... the use of the touch screen info center for everything work well and is well thought out.

Worst Features

Please add XM or Sirrus Sat radio option soon. More instructions on how to maximize mpg.

Review

I am the proud owner of a Ford
Excursion and a former owner of a
Mitsubishi Montero Sport, the latter
was wrecked recently and we rented a
Toyota Prius, this car is sooooo nice.
Did I mention I had an excursion and
now I am in something that gets 60
MPG, let me see, 12MPG vs 60 MPG, I
can put up with the narrow seats, heck
I need to drop a few lbs, I can put up
with the slow take off,the excursion
cant go over 85 MPH anyway, to make
this simple, with the recent situation
in the Middle East, I have nothing but
praise for this car, I would save a
the equivilant of a car note by
trading down. Did I mention 60 MPG.
Enough said.

Best Features

60 MPG

Worst Features

Seats kind of narrow. But 60 MPG who cares....WOW.

Review

While the fuel economy is slightly less
than advertised (i am getting about 50
mpg in mixed driving) it literally
"sips" the cheapest fuel. acceration is
adequate but even better "off the
line". It has many really great features
like "bluetooth technology". With a
"bluetooth enabled" cell phone (I have a
motorola V600 and AT&T) when you get
into the car it "reads" my cell phone
and magically (without even taking the
phone out of my pocket!) becomes a fully
integrated car phone - using the car's
computer screen, speakers and
microphone. What a deal.

Best Features

Bluetooth.

Worst Features

electrically adjustable seats or at least more seat adjustments. leather interior and heated seat option. I should add that in order to get the car, I had to pay WAY over list price!
