Used 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Hatchback Consumer Reviews
My friend with a Chevy Volt is jealous
I love this car! I have 1500 miles on it and average 104 MPG. I live in a rural area and the other small towns are 10 to 15 miles away. I have a 240V line and charger so when I get back from one of the small towns I plug in and in 2 hours I'm ready to go again. The larger cities are about 100 miles from my home. My friend has a Volt and we have similar travel demands. Even though he has a longer battery range he gets much worse mileage when his battery is depleted compared to my Prime. In fact, he is getting approximately 20 MPG's less than I am. When we travel together his kids ask to take my car since its has much better rear passenger room. The car is quiet, dependable, handles well, and is an excellent buy when you consider the state tax rebate and federal tax credit. I would buy this car again with no hesitation.

Love it
I have put 10,000 miles on this car and have loved every minute of it— almost all of my driving is on electric charge (I usually get 35 - 40 miles per charge, much more than the advertised 25) and have averaged well over 200 mpg of gasoline usage. I love the look and feel of the car and it has performed spectacularly so far.

First Toyota! So far so good! 0 gas station visits
Update Aug 2021 Sold my Prius prime to Carvana. Great car with zero issues. Fit and finish after 3 years 45K miles were as good a new car. Even more great, sold the car for the same price as I got it for. Drove the car for 3 years on the house. Just paid for gas and insurance Update August 2020 Working from home has muted some of the benefits of owing a super duper efficient car. How ever, there has been 0 gas station visits since March of this year. Constantly postponing tire change since all the trips are to the grocery store now. Update Feb 2020 Prius prime continue to validate the purchase decision. MPG has gone up to 100+ mpge as I am getting used the car whcih is twice as that of my 2015 CMAx Energi. Fill ups are once every 900 miles. Radar cruise control and automatic breaking has saved me more than a few times. (Will these technologies assistants make one complacent behind the wheels and eventually a worse driver is a really good question). No issues till now, wonderful commuter car. Happy with my decision. (Three of my coworkers brought the prius prime after hearing my raving reviews :-) ) Literally walked across to the Toy dealership after dropping off the Ford CMax. My commute increased from 65 Miles round trip to 80 Miles. Choice was between the new LEAF, Bolt and the prime. Decided against the LEAF because of all the range anxiety I had with my 2012 LEAF. Bolt was finally off the list because of the size of the car. Prius won me hands down. Automatic collision detection has saved me at least once while driving back from work. Has 6000 mi on the car already averaging about 99 Mpge lifetime. Visit to the gas station is every 850 miles which is wonderful. Update 2020 Feb The car is solid as a rock, no complaints, saves money on gas. This is the rock star commuter car. I might switch to the RAV 4 prime when it becomes available. That car has 47 Miles promised range on EV which is going to be a good for the next few year.

Prime mover
Happy with our Prime. Touch screen is a bit sensitive. Seat heater switch position is absurd. Can't see it and difficult to reach. Heads up display is good, but speed limit indicator is intermittently displayed and doesn't appear on GPS screen. Rear storage area is compromised by the additional battery. Better rear seat head room compared to the Volt. Better gas-only mileage than Volt or Sonata Plug-in. Troubles with Bluetooth connection to phone, but still sorting out. Adaptive cruise control works well, although use manual override if approaching a traffic light or highway slow down. Light near electrical charge port is nice, but would be good to have illuminated button all the time - difficult to locate in the dark after light is off, e.g. when disconnecting the cable after charging. Lighting for rear hatch area is poor and requires manually switching on/off. Had dealer reprogram back-up beeper, as constant beeping while in reverse was annoying. Had dealer install black applique over shifter console to cover the white trim. Picked this car over the Clarity plug-in (safety features on that car are not as advanced) and Volt (concerned about reliability, resale, and rear passenger room), and Sonata plug-in hybrid (poor availability, no rear seat pass through). Lack of middle seating position in the rear of the Prime is a negative. Voice recognition on navigation leaves something to be desired. Update at 11,000 miles. No problems to report. With plug-in feature and ability to charge away from home, still have well over 100 mpg (e).
