This truck has served me very well for the past 6 years. I bought it from a friend in 2000, at that time it had 100k miles on it. I t now has 174k and it's still running great. The oil gets changed every 3k or so and I have had no major issues in that period of time. It gets about 15-18mi per gallon which is kind of a drag, but it also is a great off-road vehicle with a nice suspension and drive train for rocky terrain. I would however give this truck poor ratings for power; 4th and 5th gears are not really made for long hills. And towing anything heavy is not so recommended. The automatic version does not have this fault. Other than that this vehicle is very well built and fun to drive.
This truck has been completely reliable, with no frills, no problems, just basic transportation and 900+ pounds cargo carrying. Gas mileage was and still is exactly as stated on the sticker, 22 miles per gallon city, 27 mpg highway with a 100 pound cap/canopy and a bedliner installed.
The main "feature" of this vehicle would have to be its simplicity since it is so spartan it doesn't really have any notable features.
In 1995 Toyota upgraded their basic pickup to the Tacoma. This added airbags, a right side rear view mirror, a day/ night rear view mirror, a bunch of other improvements and thousands of dollars in cost.
I drove my toyota p/u off the lot with zero miles. I drove this thing for 9+ years and racked up well over 137000 miles on it. I treated it well, oil changes every 7000 sometimes going to 10,000 miles (only drove in the city) only problem was 2 batteries (dome light was left on) and tires. Other than that, my little reliable toyota always got me home. The 22re is probably one of the finest engines ever made. I reluctanly had to sell mine (Poor thing got shipped to South America)
Cupholders in front of the ac vents (keeps your drink cold)
Great utilitarian truck. this is not for someone who expects their truck to drive or feel like a car. Very impressed with reliability. this truck can go anywhere... 4Low and go! With decent tires this truck is unstoppable! Respectable fuel economy for a truck.
Go anywhere ability. Good fuel economy. Utilitarian nature.
Factory stereo provisions unimpressive. Even with five speed could use more highay pep, but good down low.
I am writing my update review on my
toy trk. It now has 118k miles on it.
Still love it to death. Still runs like
new. Nothing has gone bad except a
battery. This truck has been to hell
and back. Snow, high speeds on the
interstate, delivering food, you name
it. Been there done that. No other
truck could survive all of this
carnage. Just remember to change the
oil every 3k, not every 7.5k like the
stupid manuel saids.
reliability, good on gas
AC and PS should be standard. 200hp
motor and 6 speed would be nice.
