2004 Toyota Matrix XR AWD 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl 4A)

I have 15500 miles after one year with the 2004 AWD Matrix. No mechanical problems. I am located in the upper midwest so AWD in the winter is a big deal. Winter came and I had no problems. Summer time I have a boat so we are on the water and at the beach a lot. It is a great beach car. I average about 31 mpg on the highway and 21-24 mpg in town. For a 4-wheel drive, that is as good as it gets. Zippy and nimble in town. Comfortable on long trips. Needs more low-end tourque. Big hills can be an issue.

Best Features

Roominess is great. It is really a "swiss army knife" of a vehicle. It does a little bit of everything. Most things it performs above average at. I put after market rims and an MP3 player in it. Great road trip car now!

Worst Features

Engine performance is seriously lacking. Upgrade the AWD system to go along with a small 6-cylinder. Do that and Toyota would have one heck of a car here. Forget the supercharger. That thing makes no difference in lower RPM ranges.
