Overview
The 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross is one of the most affordable new SUVs on sale today. Slotting below Toyota's iconic RAV4, the Corolla Cross offers many of the same benefits as the Corolla sedan and hatchback — lots of safety features, a comfortable ride and solid fuel economy. Its subcompact crossover body style also provides additional ground clearance and a larger cargo area. Given a recent comprehensive upgrade (detailed below), we don't expect any major changes for the 2027 Corolla Cross.
Edmunds spotlight: Still fresh from an update
Toyota gave the Corolla Cross and Corolla Cross Hybrid (which we review separately) a major midlife update for 2026. Enhancements to the extra-small SUVs included minor exterior styling tweaks, a larger touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and a redesigned center console that increased its interior storage slightly. These additions made the Corolla Cross a more attractive option for small SUV shoppers, but we think some newer rivals are even better.
Competitors to consider
The Corolla Cross competes in a crowded field of well-regarded small SUVs. Our favorite is the Hyundai Kona. The Kia is smaller than the Toyota but has an expansive list of features and driver aids, and the optional turbocharged engine makes it a bit more fun to drive. We also recommend that you check out the sporty Mazda CX-30, tech-heavy Chevrolet Trax and adventurous Subaru Crosstrek. They all exhibit the Corolla Cross' positive attributes but have distinct personalities that set them apart from the relatively unexciting Toyota.
