Vehicle1996 Toyota Camry DX 2dr Coupe
ReviewI purchased this car in July of 2007 with 114k miles. The car made it to 148k miles. Once it reached that point, I pumped approximately $5,000.00 into it. I replaced the timing belt, water pump, fuel pump, new rotors (twice in the time I owned it), 3 new sets of tires, plugs, axles, and last but not least, the transmission. I have had to replace other things, but those were the big ones. The paint job is the worst I have ever seen and the door handles have a curious habit of snapping off. I don't drive like a kid, so I think operator error is minimal. The car just died yesterday and this time, it's anyone's guess what the problem is. If you are thinking of getting a Toyota Camry, FORGET IT
Worst FeaturesThe entire car.

It also sounds like your mechanics saw you coming thru the door and charged you way too much, and maybe were not too honest. My son and I have had problems with big chains, lying, unhooking hoses, putting parts on wrong-so I suggest you do what we did regardless of what type car-get an honest reliable mechanic independent or small shop that has good reviews. Lucky for me my mechanic is a good friend of mine and I get excellent work at a fair price. Been dealing with him for 11 years now...good luckReport it

It sounds like whoever gets this car next is going to be good to go. The next thing to go is usually the distributor. Coils, suppressors, and capacitors inside the distributor do go bad on this Camry about this age regardless of the mileage. 140.00 fix. Most of the things you listed are standard replacement items at 100,000 miles except the transmission. I had a transmission go out at 150,000 miles on one of my five Camrys except I knew the car had suffered extreme abuse from a teenager who blew out the engine (Overreved). However, if you lived close to me I would buy this car from you right now, unless it has that sludging V6 or wrecked. Otherwise, when you buy a car ask for the service records. It sounds like you acrued all the expense of zero maintainence before you purchased the car. Three sets of new tires in 30,000 miles?- was the alignment checked? That would signal me that the car may have been wrecked!! Did you check Car Fax? I know Camrys and Accords and your experience is on a different planet from the norm.Report it
