Cabin boom is real

2025 Toyota Grand Highlander XLE 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
Before purchasing a Grand Highlander, be sure to google "grand highlander cabin boom". This is an engineering defect (Toyota calls it a "characteristic") that results in a low frequency booming noise in your ears as you drive at low speeds. Similar to when one back window is open, but not exactly. It's worse. Like being inside a drum. Based on the posts on Reddit, cabin boom does not … affect all GHs, and it's not limited to just a certain model or trim. So before purchasing you need to test drive like crazy the exact car you plan to take home. Test drive it on local roads going less than 20 - 25 mph.
Unfortunately we didn't know about this problem until after purchase. Even though we reported the problem within hours, and took the car back to the dealership, and said we didn't want the car due to this issue, they only offered to buy the car back with depreciation.
Buy with caution.
