Comfort, fuel efficiency, style and value in one neat package

2024 Lincoln Nautilus front 3/4

2025 Lexus NX Hybrid

2026 Lexus NX 350h

Lexus dominates the luxury hybrid game when it comes to the sheer diversity of models offered across its lineup. Take the small NX SUV, for example. In addition to the base four-cylinder gas model, the automaker offers two different electrified powertrains — choose between the power and efficiency of a plug-in hybrid and the value and simplicity of a conventional hybrid.

For 2025, Lexus tweaked the NX slightly, giving it USB-C charging ports up front and a few additional active safety features.

EPA combined fuel economy: 39 mpg
Edmunds Rating: 6.8 (out of 10)
Average price: $50,553

2025 Lexus UX

Lexus UX hybrid, top down view

The entry-level Lexus UX, which is even smaller than the NX above, got a real shot in the arm in 2025 when it received a 196-horsepower hybrid powertrain in place of the previous 181-hp setup. That upgrade gave it much-improved acceleration to match its quiet, smooth ride and nimble handling. The UX's cabin is made from some pretty nice materials, and the driver and front passenger will find it very comfortable. However, the confining rear seats and smallish cargo area mean it's a hybrid SUV that's best suited to empty nesters, single folks and couples, not families.

EPA combined fuel economy: 42-43 mpg
Edmunds Rating: 5.5 (out of 10)
Average price: $39,903

2025 Lexus RX Hybrid

2023 Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance

Like its kid siblings, the Lexus RX Hybrid offers an upscale interior and comfortable seating, as well as a price that undercuts many of its German rivals. However, Lexus also recognized that customers in the midsize segment may want more performance, and to meet those desires, it offers three different hybrid systems on its long-running luxury crossover.

The RX 350h has 246 horsepower courtesy of a non-turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a continuously variable automatic transmission, while the RX 500h hybrid switches those elements out for a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and an electrified six-speed automatic gearbox for a total of 366 hp. It's quite a bit quicker as a result and still gets good fuel economy around town thanks to the hybrid boost.

The plug-in hybrid RX 450h+ is also available for those who want more all-electric driving but don't require absolute power. It'll travel 38 miles per charge, with a 304-hp four-cylinder hybrid powertrain ready to step in once the battery gets low.

EPA combined fuel economy: 27-36 mpg
Edmunds Rating: 6.9 (out of 10)
Average price: $59,489

2025 Lexus TX Hybrid

2026 Lexus TX 550h+

By now you may be catching on that Lexus has gone to great lengths to ensure all of its SUV customers have at least one hybrid option. The three-row 2025 TX is no different, with a gas-only base engine or the option of conventional or plug-in hybrid power. Go the former route and you'll end up with the TX 500h, which, as its name implies, uses the same 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as its RX 500h little sibling. The TX hybrid has 366 horsepower for the driver to play with, while up to six additional passengers will find plenty of room and lots of useful technology to enjoy.

The 2025 TX 550h+ could be an attractive option for those who want to start their day out without using any gasoline. It's rated for 33 miles of all-electric driving, and with all of its 404-hp hybrid powertrain contributing, it managed a 5.6-second sprint to 60 mph in Edmunds' testing.

EPA combined fuel economy: 27-29 mpg
Edmunds Rating: 6.9 (out of 10)
Average price: $68,787

2025 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid

2024 Lincoln Nautilus

The hybrid Lincoln Nautilus is a very handsome, comfortable SUV that's absolutely stuffed with technology, including a 48-inch display that spans the entire width of the dashboard and a hands-free driving assistant called BlueCruise. The gas-electric powertrain makes 310 hp courtesy of a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and a continuously variable automatic transmission, and it has an EPA combined rating of 30 mpg, a number we had no trouble matching. The technology may be a bit overwhelming for the tech-averse, but otherwise, the Nautilus is an appealing luxury SUV with an avowed focus on comfort and poise.

2025 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid

2021 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid

The Bentley Bentayga is but one of the several plug-in hybrid offerings from the English luxury automaker. Go for the Bentayga Hybrid and you'll exchange the thirsty, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 for a more efficient 3.0-liter turbo V6, with electric motors contributing to a total of 456 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. It's rated to travel 25 miles on electric power alone, and when the V6 fires up, it achieves a commendable 21 mpg in combined driving, far better than the V8's 16 mpg estimate. As with any good Bentley, the Bentayga Hybrid has a spacious interior made from top-tier materials, with genuine wood, aluminum, leather and sheepskin ensuring a luxurious experience for all on board.

2025 Land Rover Range Rover Plug-in Hybrid

2023 Land Rover Range Rover PHEV

The stately Range Rover is about as good as it gets when it comes to comfort and presence. That applies equally well to the available plug-in hybrid powertrain, which gets a turbine-smooth, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and electric motors to produce 542 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. This PHEV should go 21 miles on electricity alone, and with the engine kicking in, it matched its EPA combined rating of 21 mpg in our testing. Great visibility, a commanding seating position, lots of off-road technology, an available third-row seat and excellent cabin materials ensure the newest Range Rover upholds its family reputation.

Best luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs of 2025

2025 Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid

2025 Volvo XC60 front 3/4

With 36 miles of pure electric driving range before the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine kicks in, the XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid is capable of some pretty long commutes without using a single drop of gasoline. And its 455 hp means the XC60 PHEV can also hustle to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, an impressive feat for such an efficient vehicle. The interior is starting to look a little dated, but the minimalist Scandinavian design is still rather handsome, and there's plenty of room for all five passengers.

EPA combined fuel economy: 28 mpg
Edmunds Rating: 8.2 (out of 10)

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC Plug-in Hybrid

Edmunds visitors save an average of $2879 off their new car. How much can you save?
2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e profile

The Mercedes-Benz GLC wins points by nature of its appealing styling and high-quality interior, and those who want the GLC 350e plug-in hybrid miss out on none of that. It'll travel an impressive 54 miles per charge according to the EPA, and with 313 hp, it's a better performer than the base non-hybrid GLC 300. Those who want the absolute most performance possible could also consider the AMG GLC 63 S E Performance model, which has a higher-strung 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and even more electric grunt for a total of 671 horses. With just 1 mile of electric range and an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined, the AMG model isn't the one to choose for fuel savings.

2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE Plug-in Hybrid

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e

The midsize Mercedes GLE is one of our perennial favorite luxury SUVs, and the GLE 450e plug-in hybrid earns a spot in our hearts thanks to its excellent interior quality and effortless driving experience. The hybridized 2.0-liter inline-four makes 381 hp, and the battery and electric motor allow it to travel 50 miles on pure electricity. We were able to go 59 miles before the engine contributed, and once it did, the 450e managed 29 mpg, handily beating its EPA estimate of 23 mpg combined.

With the battery depleted, the X5 returned 23 mpg in our hands, and charging it up should yield about 39 miles of gas-free driving.
