What an incredible EV

I purchased the Uncharted Sport in Habenaro Orange. I’ve been after this vehicle since I first saw it’s press release a year ago and had the great good fortune to get one of the first ones in the Phoenix area. If you want a hard-core snooty EV, this probably isn’t for you. It doesn’t have one pedal driving (thank God) and its charging speed and range aren’t perfect (yet) but close enough. However, if you’re looking for an easy to drive and live with EV, want some basic off roading ability, great handling and 13 second quarter mile times this is your vehicle. It has the perfect balance of screen/button interface as well. This is my first EV and so far it’s been awesome. The raised dash pod is wonderful. More information and much easier to see than the HUD in my wife’s Lexus. Off hours charging (level 2) runs me about $11 for a full (280ish) charge. Light off roading in the loose sand with X-Mode works great! Not sure I want to risk the battery pack on anything more involved…. The ride is quiet and composed with surprisingly good handling. The seats have side bolsters and are really supportive and comfortable. It is way sportier than any SUV not wearing a M or AMG badge (my other car is a BMW Z4 so I have a good perspective). Also, after spending a far amount of time trying the base audio system vs the HK upgraded audio in the GT I went with the base unit. It’s very good and I honestly couldn’t tell much difference with the HK unit. Space behind the rear seat is great for clubs and gear, but the back seat is cramped. I also tried the Solterra which has a ton of back seat space but I liked the Uncharted’s styling and didn’t need the space. Yes this is really a re-badged Toyota (something the magazine reviews keep bringing up as a negative but in reality who cares. Toyota’s quality control and reliability is awesome), but the styling is much better, you get X-mode and buying a Subaru was a low pressure fun experience. The only negatives are the Sport trims wheels don’t hold a candle to the GT’s and the Panoramic roof doesn’t open on the GT. Go test drive one and be prepared to be impressed!!!

Our take on the 2026 Subaru Uncharted Sport

Review of 2026 Subaru Uncharted We owned two Subaru’s when we decided it was time to replace the older one, a 2016 Outback. In doing so, we really stepped outside of our boxes. First, by purchasing a new vehicle in it’s first model year. Indeed, a fun (potential) fact, our dealer said this was the first Uncharted purchased in North America. (Well, it’s actually leased, but who cares.) Second, this was our first foray into electric vehicledom. We researched this car and others before making a decision. We liked the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Subaru Solterra (and the Toyota sibling bZ), but wanted something a bit smaller and favor Subaru’s if they make something that fits our needs. We also test drove some Kia’s. The interior of the sibling Toyota C-HR was a deal killer for my wife, who did not like the suede-like seats and the lack of any seat color other than black. ( offer another color, but apparently aren’t producing them.) Further, their lease deal was very high, for essentially the same vehicle. Overall, to be clear, we love this car, and love the Sport trim. It is exceptionally smooth-riding, handles well, it’s fast, and it fun to drive as well. The 360 surround camera and other advanced features are excellent. Charging is simple, and as it’s really a local runabout, 110 charging is fine for us. We have 220 nearby, but it is less convenient and really no need for it. Charging is set to stop at 80% and when it gets to around 50% we just leave it plugged in as much as we want. There are a few minor issues, mostly seeming to stem from a recent software upgrade that actually broke some things rather than providing improvements. Our complaints are relatively trivial and don’t reduce our overall delight with this car. First, the regenerative braking setting defaults to low after each use. It should be retained according to the last setting, be set along with the memory seat and mirror settings, or, since the car is supposed to recognize which driver is in the driver’s seat, that (and other personalized) setting should be automatic. Looking at reviews on Edmunds and KBB, they have some merit but can be nit-picky. Yes, the rear seat is somewhat cramped, but our dogs don’t care. Cargo space, while not like the Outback or our Forester, is more than adequate for our needs. Some have commented that the steering wheel can obstruct the instrument cluster, but that has not been an issue for us. (The steering wheel is oval rather than round; this was more of an issue with the Toyota C-HR’s round steering wheel.) Range and charging times are not an issue for us, but perhaps could be for long road trips; we haven’t had to deal with any of that, so far. While the Uncharted cannot charge quite as quickly as say an Ioniq at fast chargers, the difference is just a few minutes. Apparently we are the first owners of a Subaru Uncharted in the whole United States (or at least among the first), and we couldn’t be more pleased!!
