Bought my SE in early 99 with 76k.
Drive 75 miles round trip to work, 3
years of stop & go city driving & the
last year of highway driving. Has 126K
on it now. Other than that reg.
maintenance, plugs, brakes, battery and
tires no major repairs. Has good power
& handles well.
Exterior Design, Second gear start
(works good in a foot of snow), Radio
controls in steering wheel.
Cup holder location sucks, Battery
location not much better.
Bought this car new in '94 as my first
car and still driving it. The GP is a
good choice for someone who wants a
Mustang kind of car but needs something
more practical. Though the GP is not
a "true" sports car, its sporty enough
for most people who are willing to
trade off tire burning rear wheel drive
muscle car performance for a car that
performs not as good as a Mustang or
Camaro but still pretty fast, does well
in snow and has a useable back seat and
That said, build quality on these cars
Good snow traction
Fast (above 4000 RPM)
Useable back seat and trunk
Horrible build quality
Alternators must be replaced every 2
Too much car for too small a braking
Poor gas mileage
Expensive to repair
Paint begins to chip and fade too soon
Now pushing 110K have had normal
issues; plugs, brake shoes ,rear
struts,battery and tires. Only items
that were out of normal maintenance was
the master cyc. failure and L/R
caliper, which hung up and had to be
replace. For an American made car it's
been a good one. Mileage has been
consistent 25-26 MPG. Just now starting
to use quart every 1,500 miles (has had
oil changed every 3-4K). Really don't
want to get another car because I know
I won't get one as good as this one has
been but know I can't go on too much
longer before starter, alternator,cv
joints,a/c and expensive stuff starts
going. Still maybe better than getting
a new car and depreciation.
Radio controls in steering wheel nice.
Only car that I have ever owned that
has had that option. Love the red
Cup holder impossible to use. Replaced
way too many headlight seal beams due
to stone damage. The arm cushion on
console is like resting on a rock and
is too high-engineer who put that
combination together should be shot!
This car has treated me ok so far. I
bought it about 6 months ago and put
about 10,000 miles on it already. Now
at 110,000 miles, i realize alot of
its faults. It does have great
handleing but the stiff suspension is
very harsh. The 24 valve engine is
quick, but not until at least 4,000
rpm. The 4 wheel disc brakes are always
wearing out and squeaking. The cup
holders are useless, and knobs and
levers keep falling apart. The car also
should come standard with a manual.
Besides all this I love the looks and
both the front and back seats are
comfortable. The engine loves to race
but needs a ton a maintnence.

on interior controls, and supercharge
