underpowed reliable truck
owned one 10 years. it got 17 miles a gallon with a 4cyl engine my new truck has a 8cyl and gets 19-21 mpg. it never broke down, but was uncomfortable to drive (i am over 6ft), was noisy, underpowered (esp. on hills) and had minor mfg defects (you could not roll down the windows and then role them back up at highway speed without the window jaming before it make it all of the way back up)
One Tough Little Truck
Bought this baby new back in college. 200,000 miles and 12 yrs later, I still don't want to part with it. I wanted a Toyota, but they wanted $5K more for one. I was never crazy about the 4 cylinder, but it was all I could afford at the time. I changed the oil religiously. I towed many thousands of miles--sometimes a 3000 lb 20 foot runabout, hauled countless loads of firewood and rock, buried it over the front bumper in mud, had the back tires 3 feet off the ground, and it just keeps going. The 5 speed made the truck--keep the rpms up and she'll do most anything you need her to. Decent enough mileage for a 4x4-- 19ish, still the best designed jump seats ever in an extended cab pickup.
The little truck that could.
This truck is pretty much unkillable.... It was and still is my first truck and I ran it hard. I'm talking airborne, redlining, hauling, towing, drifting, crashing, commuting, ect. It did it all. At around 280,000 miles it was stolen, taken on a weeklong off-road joyride, and abandoned in the snow for another week. Once recovered, I still drove it home. It's not fast or super flashy, but I and anyone who has seen her in action will testify to its sheer capability.
