Trim levels & features
Sitting squarely between the light-duty and heavy-duty versions of its competitors, all versions of the 2017 Nissan Titan XD are available with a crew-cab matched with a 6.5-foot bed. The work-oriented S and SV trims are also available with a single cab and an 8-foot bed. In all cases, shoppers can choose between a 5.6-liter V8 gasoline engine (390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque) or a turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 diesel (310 hp and 555 lb-ft). Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive available as an option (it's standard on the Pro-4X model). The gasoline engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, and the diesel uses a six-speed automatic.
The Titan XD seats up to five or six passengers and comes in five trim levels: S, SV, Pro-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve. Feature highlights for the entry-level S work truck include a lockable tailgate, power windows, air-conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth, a bench front seat, 60/40-split folding rear seats, cloth and vinyl upholstery, and a 5-inch display for audio and mobile apps control.
The SV trim adds chrome exterior trim, an overhead console, upgraded instrumentation, carpeted floors, cloth upholstery, satellite radio, Siri Eyes Free and NissanConnect mobile-app integration.
The off-road-focused Pro-4X model steps up with standard four-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, a two-speed transfer case, Bilstein shocks, a lockable rear differential, skid plates, hill descent control, LED headlights, a spray-in bedliner, a receiver hitch with a 4/7-pin wiring harness connector, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, unique cloth upholstery, dual front captain's chairs, storage space under the rear seats, a rearview camera, a 7-inch display with navigation and blind-spot monitoring.
The SL trim goes without the Pro-4X's off-road gear, building on the SV trim's feature list with 20-inch alloy wheels, running boards, a cargo-management rail system in the bed, a power-sliding rear window, parking sensors, remote ignition, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a premium audio system with expanded entertainment apps and NissanConnect emergency telematics.
At the top of the Titan XD lineup is the Platinum Reserve trim that goes all-in with a wealth of chrome trim, a trailer brake controller, premium leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, cooled front seats, heated rear seats and a surround-view camera system.
Some features are available on supporting trims as options. The Platinum Reserve is eligible for a dual-screen rear entertainment system with two wireless headphones. The new Chrome and Texas Titan packages add a variety of cosmetic enhancements.

2017 Nissan Titan XD video
MARK TAKAHASHI: I'm Edmunds editor Mark Takahashi, and here's an expert rundown of the 2017 Nissan Titan XD. Regular duty pickup trucks are incredibly capable when it comes to hauling and towing. For those who need a bit more, but would rather not step up to the heavy duty class, the 2017 Nissan Titan XD fills that gap perfectly. Like other trucks, it's offered in a basic work version, all the way up to the luxurious platinum reserve trim. You'll also get to choose between a gasoline powered V8 or our preference, the turbo diesel option that can tow more than 12,000 pounds. Sadly, either choice will have you stopping for fuel quite often, courtesy of the thirsty engines combined with a small gas tank. The Titan XD's bed gets high marks for its available tie down system, spray in bed liner, integrated power outlet, and lockable and removable storage boxes. Depending on whether you go for the regular, king, or crew cab, you can choose between a 6 and 1/2 foot bed or an 8 footer. The crew cab is the obvious choice if you need to haul passengers, and those rear seats are certainly suitable for adults, though other trucks are roomier. The rest of the cabin is pretty nice as far as pickups go, too. The Titan gets good grades for ride comfort, even when it's not loaded with cargo. The 2017 Nissan Titan XD's bottom line extends well past its impressive capabilities. It's easy to drive for such a big truck, and it's comfortable for long highway stretches. We'd certainly recommend it alongside the well-established Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and Ford F250 Super Duty. If you'd like to see more Edmunds Expert Rundowns, hit Subscribe.
2017 Nissan Titan XD Expert Rundown Review
Looking for a full-size truck with a powerful V8, an aggressive look and generous bumper-to-bumper warranty? The 2017 Nissan Titan XD might be a good match. Here's a quick rundown of what we like, what we don't and the bottom line from the Edmunds editors.
Features & Specs
Our experts’ favorite Titan XD safety features:
- Blind-Spot Monitoring
- The blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts are most helpful on a truck this big.
- Around-View Camera System
- It gives you a bird's-eye view of your surroundings, making it easier to maneuver in tight spaces.
- Emergency Telematics
- The NissanConnect system has automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery and roadside assistance at the touch of a button.
2017 Nissan Titan XD Diesel for Sale
Traditionally, full-size trucks are broken into two classes: half-ton trucks and heavy-duty trucks. Nissan's Titan XD splits the difference, offering towing and hauling capabilities at the top end of the half-ton class without the harsh ride quality of a heavy-duty pickup.
Another thing that sets the Titan apart from half-ton pickups is its optional Cummins diesel engine, a 5.0-liter V8 that delivers 310 horsepower and a whopping 555 pound-feet of torque. Nissan is not required to publish EPA fuel economy estimates owing to the Titan XD's weight class, but our long-term diesel-powered 2016 Nissan Titan XD has been averaging 14.8 mpg. The diesel is a lugger, not a runner. Though it can tow up to 12,300 pounds (when properly configured), its 0-60 mph time is a lengthy 9.6 seconds, and passing on a two-lane road requires planning and patience. Nissan also offers a 5.6-liter gasoline V8 that puts out 390 hp and 394 lb-ft. As with most pickup trucks, the Titan XD offers either rear-wheel drive or a part-time four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case.
It's a long climb up to the Titan XD's cabin — this is one of the tallest trucks in this segment — but once there you'll find comfortable seats with plenty of stretch-out room, and the same goes for the rear seat in crew-cab models. Interior fit and finish is excellent, and we like the control layout, though the stereo seems dated and some of the switches and buttons feel a bit on the small side, especially considering how much real estate is available on the dashboard.
Out on the open road, the Titan XD feels pretty tidy considering its capabilities. The ride is firm, but it's not nearly as harsh as with a typical 3/4-ton truck, and we like the braking and steering response. The Pro-4X, which features 18-inch wheels and an off-road-tuned suspension, has a softer and more compliant ride. It's also the only full-size off-road pickup with a diesel option, and the Cummins' low-end torque is a boon, helping the Pro-4X pick its way over boulders and scramble up steep grades.
Nissan currently offers the Titan XD with either a crew cab and a 6.5-foot bed or a single-row cab with an 8-foot bed. Five trim levels are on offer, starting with the S, a bare-bones work truck with a bench seat and easy-to-clean vinyl floors. Civilian customers will probably consider the SV to be the bare minimum in terms of comfort and convenience features, but they'd do well to consider the Pro-4X, not just for its off-road ability but for its more compliant ride. The SL does without the off-road gear but offers more comfort and convenience features, while the top-of-the-line Platinum Reserve rivals the high-end trucks from other manufacturers. Should I lease or buy a 2017 Nissan Titan XD?
Is it better to lease or buy a car? Ask most people and they'll probably tell you that car buying is the way to go. And from a financial perspective, it's true, provided you're willing to make higher monthly payments, pay off the loan in full and keep the car for a few years. Leasing, on the other hand, can be a less expensive option on a month-to-month basis. It's also good if you're someone who likes to drive a new car every three years or so.
