Why the CVT takes sooo long to reach redline (or close at 5,500) is a mystery. Not until 80 mph was the engine spinning near redline. Obviously, no distinct shifting here, just a slow ratio change throughout the quarter-mile.
Very strange ABS program in this Rogue. From 60 to 30 mph, things seem on track, then from 30 to zero, brakes grab and release, causing bucking and skidding and some directional instability. Somehow, it manages to stop in an adequate distance despite the wild ride.
With better steering feel than some in this class, the Rogue isn't a standout, but also isn't forgettable. Balance, as expected, leans heavily toward understeer. The Rogue is soft and tall, as expected, but is a reasonably well-mannered machine in the slalom. Key to a good run is making smooth, confident inputs.
