There's a lot to like with 2025 Nissan Kicks. Underneath the striking styling is a practical, well-equipped little SUV with available all-wheel drive and an upscale interior (in the top trim). But the Kicks is let down by its subpar driving experience due to an underwhelming powertrain.

2025 Nissan Kicks Review
Overview

It's fair to say that the first-generation Nissan Kicks was a model in dire need of an extreme makeover. Suffering from a lack of power, comfort and utility, it ranked near the bottom of our recommendation list for extra-small crossover SUVs. However, thanks to its dramatic redesign, the stylish second-generation 2025 Kicks will likely rise in our standings. Though it remains underpowered, the all-new Kicks is significantly upgraded in every other way. In addition to its appealing new design and more refined interior, it offers all-wheel drive for the first time. Next-generation infotainment and driver assistance technologies are on board, as are new front seats to provide improved comfort. It has more interior room too.
Edmunds spotlight: Technology advancements in the new Nissan Kicks
Step into the redesigned 2025 Kicks, and you'll find dual displays for the digital instrumentation and infotainment systems. It's a nice-looking setup for a budget-based crossover. The upsized 12.3-inch screen that comes on the SV and SR trim levels supports wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, so you don't need a USB cord to pair and use many of your phone's apps right on the touchscreen. Numerous driver assist features are available, but you'll need to upgrade to the top SR trim level to get all of them, including ProPilot Assist. That system provides adaptive cruise control and lane centering assistance and works as long as you keep your hands on the steering wheel.
Competitors to consider
The new Nissan Kicks competes with a long list of rivals. Two of our favorites are the rugged-looking Chevrolet Trailblazer and the rewarding Mazda CX-30, with the value-priced Chevy Trax and roomy Hyundai Kona not far behind. If you're considering going off-road, the Subaru Crosstrek is a good choice. There are many appealing extra-small SUVs available, and we think the all-new Kicks is one of them as long as you're not in a hurry to reach your destination.
Which Kicks does Edmunds recommend?
Nissan reserves all of the Kicks' most appealing features for the SR trim level. However, buying a Kicks is about saving money, so we recommend the SV equipped with the Premium package. It gives you a nicer look inside and out, an upgraded infotainment system, and extras that make the Kicks more enjoyable to drive regardless of the season or weather.

I traded a 2019 for the 2025 Kicks SV. Slightly smaller but still roomy enough for me. I put 1000 miles in the first 4 days. GREAT gas mileage and very comfortable!

This is the most comfortable vehicle in the compact SUV segment in my opinion. Lots of tech and sleek/simple interior. I've had no issues with mine and am very happy.
