Overview
The Nissan Frontier is a midsize pickup truck that offers a lot of the capability you'd get from a full-size truck but in a much more manageable package. The Frontier is worth a look if budget is one of your top concerns, as it costs much less than rivals like the Toyota Tacoma. It might not be as refined as the other midsize pickups, but it can get the job done. With a redesigned Frontier rumored to bow in 2028, we expect Nissan's everyday workhorse to carry over into 2027 with no significant changes.
Edmunds spotlight: You've got body and bed options
The Nissan Frontier is, along with the Toyota Tacoma, one of only two midsize pickup trucks that can still be had in two cab styles: the extended King Cab or a four-door crew cab. You've also got your choice of bed length with the crew cab; the standard bed is a little under 5 feet in length, but you can also opt for the 6-foot-1-inch bed that comes standard on the King Cab. Both configurations roughly mirror the choices and lengths offered by the Tacoma, but the Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado are only available with 5-foot beds.
Competitors to consider
The midsize truck segment is enjoying something of a renaissance. The Ford Ranger and Tacoma are our top picks in the class and have been redesigned in the last few years. The Chevy Colorado and its GMC Canyon twin are also solid picks, and the Honda Ridgeline serves as a more comfortable alternative if you don't need class-leading tow ratings.
