    Dealer Review:

TL;DR: 1st finance manager (David) didn't know what was going on prior to our meeting; payments were almost 50% more. 2nd finance manager (Jonathan), added a $5200 extended warranty and GAP insurance without our knowledge or consent. Dealer add-ons are non-negotiable $4995. My wife and I went in to look at a Lincoln Navigator L Reserve. The salesperson that greeted us at the door, Kaylum, was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I cannot say enough good things about this gentleman. He truly went above and beyond to make us feel valued and understood. After going through our financial requirements and credit application with Kaylum Tuesday evening, we waited for the finance department to run our credit Wednesday morning. As such, we returned the next morning and sat in David's (finance manager) office to go over options. We didn't know the sale price, add-ons, etc he was working with, he simply presented the finance charge, monthly payment, and term. His numbers weren't close to our budget, likewise he started asking about our ideal monthly payment. Keep in mind, the previous evening, we went back and forth about what we'd like to pay each month. I was put off (having to repeat myself) after spending 1+ hour with sales the night before. He opened our folder and I was able to point out the document we were working on the previous night. It might be argued David couldn't possibly know what was discussed prior to his involvement but suffice to say, as a finance manager, it's his duty to be informed. I had to excuse myself due to work obligations. Later that evening, my wife and I returned and had an opportunity to speak with another finance manager, Jonathan. He presented a more attractive monthly payment and better term. It was still higher than what we discussed the previous day but it was manageable. I wasn't clear exactly what numbers he was running (base price, add-ons) so I asked for clarification. That's when he disclosed the price of the vehicle, extended 3rd party warranty, GAP insurance, TTL, etc. I was shocked, disappointed and insulted that a finance manager would automatically add an extended warranty without our approval or consent. I asked him to recalculate the numbers by taking off the warranty and he informed me the lender approved our deal based on the vehicle being covered under warranty. He also sweetened the warranty deal by adding free oil changes. After quite a bit of back-and-forth, discussing our modest trade-in, he offered an additional $500 to our trade if we would accept the warranty. As you can surmise, Jonathan went on about the benefits of a warranty, how I couldn't possibly fix things that go wrong with the vehicle, and so on. He also repeated something about one of his managers was a previous general sales manager (or something of the sort) and no matter what we add or remove, he's going to get the money (loosely paraphrased). Apart from the sale price of the vehicle, the extended warranty was $5200. Additionally, there's a non-negotiable $4995 dealer add-on that includes (to the best of my recollection) environmental protection, window tint repair, nitrogen-filled tires, LoJack installed (unclear if tracking is included). That's almost $10,200 not including GAP insurance cost (the price escapes me now). In David's office there's signage in both English and Spanish, advising the activities in his office are being recorded by video and audio. Jonathan's office didn't have the signage but there is a camera on a cabinet. Just in case a manager may choose to question my integrity, I highly encourage him/her to review the footage. The way the finance department treated us, insulting at best, is more than enough to never do business with Fred Haas Nissan. Furthermore, even if they were to try to make things right, it's only because I publicized their unscrupulous business practices on a public platform. UPDATE 11/11/2022 11:15 AM Finance manager Carlos called to see if there was anything they could do to salvage the sale. I had to keep repeating myself: I don't want to do business with them. I even said, "you didn't even offer an apology". He replied, "if you want me to apologize I will but that's not going to resolve anything." That put me over the top; manipulators will always turn things around and make it about you. I told him that. Then, 45 seconds after I made that statement, Carlos accused me of opposing his help.

Underrated to say the least!

PDX Camper, 07/18/2022
2022 Nissan Frontier SV 4dr Crew Cab 4WD 5.0 ft. SB (3.8L 6cyl 9A)
I test drove and looked at all midsized trucks, and was hated for that by most commissioned sales people. Lol. I narrowed my choices down to the Frontier, Tacoma and Colorado. What took the Tacoma out was the road noise and fuel economy were terrible. The Colorado was missing some of the current technology that the other trucks in the class had and was not as comfortable as the … Nissan. I was not really looking for power or towing, for any of them could tow a standard trailer or average speed boat, but was looking for a reliable, comfortable truck for camping, trips and general hauling. The new look is also very striking. Previous models looked as if they were still in the late 90’s. The Tacoma was my favorite for a long time on the looks department, but the new Frontier gave it a run for its money now. The Frontier had the most comfortable, smooth and quiet ride out of all of them. It also had all of the current and most desired tech available standard or with options. Push button start was standard, where it was an option only on the others. One of our must haves was the adaptive cruise control. We have it on our 2020 Sentra and love how easy that was on long trips or even in the city. You can adjust the driving distance to your comfort ability or situation. The Zero-G seats and back seats are extremely comfortable on long trips and the fold up back seats make it so our Husky does not get hair on the back seat. The turning and acceleration are smooth and responsive. Ok turning radius. The ride still feels like a truck, which I prefer, but some people don’t like that. It also handles really well in the Portland, OR rain and the snow in the Mountains. It also took the costal highway corners like a champ. Some of the cons: The first one is with most trucks out there and not sure why manufacturers don’t make this standard like they do on cars and suvs, Rear Window Defroster. The cloth mats are kind of cheap, so invest in some good all weather mats. New model so accessories are either pretty pricey or not available. Finally the biggest thing was the price for what you get. The Tacoma and Colorado were $5-6000 more for the same or less features. (Colorado did not have the adaptive cruise control available). The Tacoma was $46200 for the same features and the Colorado with less features was $45000. We got our Frontier for $39,900 and had more colors available without having to special order the truck. We did not want a monochromatic color that the others only seem to only send to dealerships, black, white or grey. We got cherry red. Remember to drop all favoritism and biases to your trucks and to test drive all of them. You might surprise yourself as I did. The Frontier was not even on my radar and sure glad I made the choice I did!
