2022 Toyota Sienna XLE 7-Passenger 4dr Minivan (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
Was on the waiting list for a new Sienna to replace a 2008 Odyssey. Wanted the space of a van and the MPG of a hybrid. Didn't want to pay more $ for less space and get a hybrid SUV.
Finally had a chance to test drive a Sienna and what a disappointment it was. Compared to the old Odyssey it was cramped inside. Definitely not as roomy, to the point that I would not want to make a road … trip in it. I'm not picky when it comes to road noise, so I didn't think that would be an issue, but it was. On the highway it was very noticeable, even to the point of aggravating.
Then there was the vibration. My wife and daughter could not stand the way their seats vibrated. My daughter was in her booster seat with a back and I could see the top of the seat vibrating very noticeably. And the vibration was noticeable in the empty third row seats too. After a 25 minute test drive it was good to get out of the vehicle and stand on solid ground.
All those issues were even more noticeable when we got back in our 08 Odyssey and drove away. It was smooth. It was quiet. It was roomy. And it was relaxing and peaceful.
Needless to say, I promptly removed my name from the waiting list and bought a Honda. I'm giving up some MPG, but it is well worth it.
And compared to my 08 Odyssey, the new vehicle is smoother and quieter, like you would expect a new vehicle to be.
