Great car for city driving

2026 Lexus NX 350h Luxury 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
I have owned my Lexus 2026 NX-350H for almost a month. Here are my observations which I hope will help prospective buyers. In general, it's a very good vehicle. But not perfect.
Pros:
- Very quiet and smooth for city driving, especially in EV mode which reduces engine RPM (and downgrades climate control). The suspension handles bumps fairly well. But get rid of the run-flat tires which … come with the car, and replace them with normal Michelin tires for a smoother, quieter ride. Just purchase a tire repair kit since the car has no spare. (Reviewers who say the car runs rough are likely using the dreaded run-flats).
- Very comfortable seats.
- Rear view mirror camera (on higher trims) is excellent, providing a superior view of what is behind you.
- Infotainment system is easy to use.
- Driver-side mirror reduces headlight glare (no glare reduction on passenger side).
- Highly responsive, fast and "sporty" in "sport mode".
- Mark Levinson audio system (on highest trim) is very good but you'll need to adjust the settings to get the sound you want. In my case, I turned off "surround sound" to get a richer sound with good base.
- Rear seats are heated (in higher trims).
- Ambient lighting is a nice touch.
- Front part of the car has a "cockpit" feel - providing a sense of security and comfort.
- Gas mileage is good but depends a great deal on how you drive the car (and driving modes used).
- The "Hold" button which allows you to take your foot of the brake, is very handy, especially for older drivers with knee issues (like me).
- Adaptive cruise control and the other safety assist features are excellent.
Cons:
- A bit noisy at highway speeds, more than I would like. Wind and road noise is quite noticeable. But still quieter than many gas-only cars, including my previous Mazda CX-9.
- Electronic push-button for the doors is difficult for some passengers to understand and use. I always need to explain that you just push the button while also pushing out the door at the same time.
- The driver-side windshield wiper does not move far enough to the left side of the window, causing both rain and snow to accumulate and creating a dangerous blind spot. I understand this can be corrected by changing the position of the driver's wiper - something I'll have the dealership take care of.
- Blind spot monitoring is not displayed in the heads-up display - a basic feature included with Mazda. Surprisngly, not so with Lexus. I feel this is a glaring ommission.
- Not a lot of room in the back seats (but they do recline a bit for extra comfort).
- Despite being efficient, the car has a fairly small gas tank so you may need to get gas more often than you think. The manual says regular gas will work, but is not recommended. Higher octane helps make the engine last longer (apparently).
- The EV button, which allows the car to drive only on battery, is close to useless because the battery is too small to retain sufficient power for very long.
Overall, a great car. But be aware of its drawbacks.
