HSE 4dr SUV 4WD (3.0L 6cyl S/C 8A)
Pros:
Nice, clean modern upscale interior. Light grey leather seats, dash, console, and headliner are beautiful and clean surprisingly very easily. Lots of safety features. Drives well in the snow and bad weather. Feels like a tank. Good space and nice size third row. Abundant and clever storage spaces throughout. Great sounding stereo, when you can get it to work. Heated windshield is … great. Auto high beam headlights are fantastic.
Cons:
The infotainment system is a constant source of frustration. Sometimes it hooks up to my phone, sometimes it won’t recognize my phone is there at all during the entire drive no matter how many ways I try to get it to find it. Sometimes it recognizes my phone for phone calls through the car, but will not recognize it to play music through the vehicle. Sometimes Apple Car Play works, sometimes it doesn’t. We have had the 2019 Land Rover Discovery HSE for almost 2 years. We’ve had to take it in for service at least 7 times for various issues. Right after I bought it I was driving through a heavy Colorado snow storm with my mom and daughter in the vehicle. My mom noticed water dripping on her. We couldn’t determine where it came from and I took it in to the dealer and they checked it and said there was nothing wrong. Then when I took it through a car wash for the first time water came pouring in around the edge of the windshield, which the dealer later admitted wasn’t sealed properly. They fixed that. Then there was a consistent extremely loud air noise coming from the drivers window. That was also checked and I was again told nothing was wrong. I took it in two more times and they finally replaced the entire stripping around the door which mostly addressed the issue. Then the storage compartment on the center console in the second row broke and wouldn’t open. They replaced that. Then the hidden storage compartment in the driver’s center console would never really open properly. After 2 service appointments they fixed that. The cover to the third row sunroof rattled. We took it back in and they fixed that. One of the side panel covers in the cargo area in the back was missing a clip so it protruded into the cargo area. It took us taking it in 3 times for various issues for them to order the part and fix that. Immediately after we bought the vehicle I noticed that it felt like I had to wrestle with the wheel, which was extremely heavy, to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. I asked the Land Rover dealer to check the alignment and steering and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I asked them to check it again on multiple occasions as we had the vehicle in for other fixes and for regular service. I was always told nothing was wrong. Then after having the vehicle for only around a year I was told the tires needed to be replaced because they had worn unevenly because the vehicle was out of alignment. What a frustrating experience after not being listened to and then having to pay $1300 out of my pocket to replace the tires and have the vehicle aligned properly (which I did not do at the dealership). Second row center headrest when up makes visibility through the rear window very bad and it’s hard for kids to fold down (you kind of have to put your body weight into pushing the button to fold it down) - Land Rover should have a control for the driver to lower that headrest because you never remember it’s up until you start driving.
Ultimately this vehicle is a good idea in concept but the quality of the build and parts are very low and unreliable. For a $70k vehicle you expect more. I will never buy another Land Rover again and will soon be trading it in for a BMW X5.
