2026 Buick Encore GX - a bit of a sleeper...
Sidewinder, 02/18/2026
2026 Buick Encore GX Sport Touring 4dr SUV (1.3L 3cyl Turbo CVT)
I purchased a new 2026 Encore GX with the upgrade Aquamarine Blue Metallic paint ($495) only available with the Sport Touring (FWD) trim package. I wanted this particular blue - the color stands out from a sea of white, black, gray and red vehicles in my area. Sport Touring trim gets the stronger engine (1.3L turbo/155hp) vs the base (1.2L turbo/137hp), black leatherette seats instead … of fabric, black lower body cladding and black 18" alloy wheels. No complaints with the 1.3L turbo engine. Acceleration is snappy and I average 37mpg using GM's Start/Stop feature. Unlike other posts here, I don't feel much bucking or coarseness when the engine restarts at a stop sign or stop light, so I leave it on all the time. The safety features - blind spot monitor on each door mirror, rear crossing monitor, lane watch monitor (defeatable) and forward collision warning all work well without being intrusive. The ride is comfortable and steady. Infotainment has SiriusXM standard and wireless Android Auto / Car Play on tap, but note that the volume does not go particularly loud. Rear seats fold flat, a nice touch. Had to transport a 5 foot long bookcase the other day, and with the seats down, no problems. Interior is a sea of black, but there are some chrome bits around the vents to break things up. Gearshifter is mounted on the left side of the center console and is easy / intuitive to use. Storage is decent - deep center console and some extra storage in the spare tire well. With GM's active noise cancellation, it's surprisingly quiet on smooth roads but does get a little noisier on rough pavement. I test drove two used Encore GX's before I bought this new one. They all have the same DNA - smooth ride, decent power on tap, decent fuel economy for a small crossover SUV, and a more upscale interior than the Trax platform it's based on. So far, so good. No regrets.
