Lots of low-end torque combined with front wheel drive makes launching the Eclipse tricky. It's easy to smoke the tires with the traction control turned off. The shifter is ok, but not as precise as the stick in the 350Z and RX-8.
The brake pedal is fairly stiff with minimal movement, not nearly as progressive as we'd like. We noted moderate ABS noise and vibration toward the end of the run. Lots of tire squeal suggests the stops could be shorter, because too much lockup is happening.
Thanks to its short wheelbase and front wheel drive, the Eclipse absolutely shines in the slalom. We could enter the slalom really hot and scrub off speed without spinning or losing control. Steering feel and ratio are very effective for this type of racing. The big V6 provides plenty of torque for accelerating out of the final cones.
