Overview
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is the all-electric reinterpretation of the German carmaker's E-Class, a midsize luxury sedan. It sits above the all-new and all-electric CLA in Mercedes' lineup and offers shoppers a noticeable step up in interior refinement and space. Above the EQE is the EQS sedan, which can be thought of as the electric version of the stately S-Class. Things get a little confusing, as there's also a midsize EQE SUV that we review separately.
Edmunds spotlight: Big changes over the horizon
When the EQE sedan debuted in 2023, it had few, if any, direct competitors. As a result, it enjoyed its own particular electric midsize luxury spotlight almost to itself. Now, only a few years later, the competition has caught up to the EQE, offering more power, performance and driver engagement. Those rivals also tend to cost less and offer more range on a single charge. There are rumors the EQE will be updated, or even replaced, for 2027, keeping it competitive with newcomers. Information remains scant, but we should know much more by this summer.
Competitors to consider
The BMW i5 is our favorite among all-electric midsize luxury sedans. Not only does it cost a bit less, but it's also noticeably more pleasurable to drive, with sharper handling balanced with a smooth ride. On top of that, it's estimated to deliver up to 310 miles on a single charge. The Audi A6 Sportback E-tron is one of the newer entrants in the class, and the sportier S6 model tops our list of performance EVs. The Mercedes-Benz EQE remains a strong choice for luxury-car shoppers who favor isolating comfort over sporty driving dynamics, though.
Edmunds Expert Rating
We drove the 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Driving experience
Handling is better than expected for a comfort-tuned suspension, with controlled body roll and a low center of gravity that lets you push harder into corners. The optional 10-degree rear-wheel steering system makes low-speed maneuvering a breeze and adds precision to quick turn-ins. Ride quality is excellent, with a serene and quiet cabin, though not quite as plush as the EQS. Visibility is good overall, with well-placed mirrors and an excellent surround-view camera system. The hood dips low and isn't too long, which also helps. Driver aids, including adaptive cruise control and lane keeping, performed smoothly and reliably.
Comfort
The climate control system works well, except in Eco mode, where it barely blows cold air. While this setting adds a few miles of range, it's impractical on sunny days unless you enjoy turning the EQE into a rolling sauna.
Driver controls are well designed, with ample steering wheel adjustment for perfect pedal reach. Interior noise and vibration levels are superb, with the cabin registering just over 60 decibels in sound tests.
In-cabin tech
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work seamlessly, and the car is well equipped with five USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad. The Burmester audio system is a standout, and the voice commands ("Hey Mercedes") are highly effective.
However, the native navigation's augmented reality integration has a slight lag. While the MBUX system is highly customizable, its complex layered menus can make finding certain functions difficult for new users.
Storage & cargo
Value
Warranty coverage is about standard, with four years/50,000 miles of basic and powertrain coverage. The battery does get a longer 10-year/155,000-mile warranty. There are also two years of scheduled maintenance and free 30-minute Electrify America fast-charging sessions included with every new EQE.
MPG
Maximum charging power for the EQE is 170 kW on a DC fast charger. Some other luxury EVs (the Lucid Air, for example) are capable of charging at a higher max, but it's good enough to get you going without too much waiting. Mercedes says you can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 32 minutes at an appropriate fast charger in ideal conditions.
X factor
2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE trim level differences
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE is a midsize luxury sedan that is available in three trim levels: EQE 320+, EQE 320 4Matic and AMG EQE. The entry-level EQE 320+ sports a single electric motor driving the rear wheels (315 horsepower, 416 lb-ft of torque). The EQE 320 4Matic adds a second motor to drive the front wheels for all-wheel drive (315 hp, 564 lb-ft). The AMG EQE is the dual-motor high-performance version (617 hp, 701 lb-ft). With launch control, output increases (677 hp, 738 lb-ft) for a brief moment.
Which EQE trim does Edmunds recommend?
The EQE 320 4Matic should easily satisfy most drivers and passengers, in terms of both performance and luxury. To that, we'd add the Exclusive trim, mainly for the adaptive cruise control and other safety features. We typically advise against the Hyperscreen since it's prone to some distracting reflections and sun glare.
