2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class - Edmunds Ratings

2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class CL550 4MATIC (4.7L V8 Twin-turbo AWD 7-speed Automatic)
Date Driven: 4/5/2011
Performance This big Benz coupe effortlessly runs a 12.8-second quarter-mile at more than 109 mph. It hits 60 in 4.6 seconds. And it does it all with virtually no skill on the part of the driver.
Driving Dynamics Four-mode variable dampers give the CL a wide range of suspension calibration. And despite being huge, it still manages respectable speed in our handling tests.
Ride Comfort There's ample adjustment range to define the CL as the long-legged coupe that it is -- comfortable around town and over the road.
Quietness Among the quietest cars we've ever tested, the CL is like a rolling safe room. This is especially impressive considering its lack of a B-pillar.
Ergonomics Mostly intuitive control placement and significant adjustability make the CL cockpit an ergonomically competent place to be.
Visibility Rear-quarter visibility could be better. Otherwise, there's a long hood with which to contend. The lack of B-pillars, however, improves lateral visibility,
Seat Access & Space This is a big coupe which means there's actually enough room in the rear seat for 6-foot-plus adults. Entry to the rear seats, however, is diffficult. Front-seat movement is slow and squeezing into the rear isn't easy.
Cargo & Storage A relatively small trunk and little overall storage space characterize the CL's emphasis on luxury over utility. Small door bins and a small center console do little to improve utility.
Build Quality The CL is among the highest quality cars made today. Its use of high-end materials and superb assembly quality are hardly surprising in this luxury bracket.
