2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan C240 4dr Sedan (2.6L 6cyl 6M)

Review

Bought new and within the first week
noticed a crack in the steering wheel.
Dealer replaced. Then the brake light
went out. Replaced. Then the license
light went out. Remote refuses to work
at times. About 3 months in, tried to
back the car out on a winter day and as
soon as I engaged reverse, the engine
died. Should have been a sign along
with the weird engine noises.
Then at 18000 miles, a few weeks over a
year old, the engine stalls on the
highway.
A plastic piece on the under side of
the rear passenger door is also loose.
The c240 is a complete waste of time
and money. Stay away!

Best Features

It worked for a year.

Worst Features

Better quality control.

Review

I bought this car as a present to
myself. Who knew I would be so
underwhelmed by the experience. Too
many 'minor' repairs in the first few
months (purge valve, wind noise because
stuff around door jam not secure, and
rear sun shade worked only when it
wanted to). These things were fixed
and now I'm experiencing other
prblems! The back of the passenger
seat fell off, the driver side door
handle broke off (no unusual use!!!),
and the gear shift moves when you
change gears. And don't get me started
about the squeaking brakes. UGH!!!!

Best Features

One touch up/down windows

Worst Features

Improve the quality of all parts. For $32,000 I expect the car to hold up a lot better than it has. I'm trading this in and I won't be buying another Mercedes.

2002 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan C240 4dr Sedan (2.6L 6cyl 6M)

Review

We bought the car used from a MB
Dealer in Boston, MA. After I drove
the BMW 325i & 330i, I decided that
comfort style & quiteness make-up for
the less power. We love it.

Best Features

Very responsive, quite and smooth ride. You enjoy driving it. Top styling in its class.

Worst Features

Cruise control switch could be better.

Review

Quick, responsive, fun to drive fast or
slow. Lots of wow factor for passengers
(voice command, navigation). Integrated
phone is very handy. Great dealership
and service, too bad I am there all the
time. What have I had replaced in the
past year? Keys (5 times), floor mats,
purge valve, a/c controls, voice command
(3 times), rear seat belts, drive train
shudders, pneumatic seat pump, phone,
shifter trim, washer/turn signal stalk
(3 times), washer pump (4 times), cd
changer, driver seat frame, seat memory,
mildew, outside mirror malfunction.

Best Features

Integrated phone, navigation system, xenon headlights. Flexible service.

Worst Features

Reliability is killing Mercedes, this car included. It breaks all time. What should they do? Improve quality control. Allow a greater range of cell phones to work in the car (currently limited to one). More front seat room.

Review

After more than two years it is still
exhilirating to get behind the wheel
of this vehicle. Quality, look and
respect are tops in its class.
Although some competitors may offer
more features and higher rated
horsepower - I've had no regrets. C-
240 has more than enough acceleration
and speed. Now that I have a toddler
its a bit cramped with the baby seat,
diaper bag and stroller though. I
would buy again, but go for E class or
a minivan/suv if you're starting a
family.

Best Features

power retractible rear sunshade steering wheel controls for features auto window down with remote

Worst Features

Don't offer power assist seats - either full power or nothing!
