Edmunds' Expert Review
by Reese Counts
Pros
- Awesome fire-breathing, top-mounted exhaust pipes
- Prodigious power
Cons
- Singular focus on track-driving performance limits daily civility
What's new
- A new, more extreme performance-oriented version of the 570S
- Lighter and more powerful than the 570S
- Part of the first 600LT generation introduced for 2019
The 2019 McLaren 600LT is another model in the company's Longtail lineage. An updated version of the McLaren 570S, the 600LT has longer bodywork, more power and less weight, with quicker lap times on a racetrack the primary goal.

Power is up 30 horsepower compared to the 570S, for a total of 592 hp from the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8. Weight is down 211 pounds compared to the 570S, though that figure varies depending on options. Part of McLaren's weight-saving process included cutting the exhaust system way down and routing the tailpipes out through the top of the rear deck, right behind the driver. That not only saved on metal but is objectively awesome.
Inside the 2019 McLaren 600LT, you'll find a track-oriented cabin complete with swaths of faux suede and the same lightweight carbon-fiber seats as in the McLaren P1 hypercar. You can also opt for the ultra-lightweight carbon-fiber seats from the McLaren Senna to drop even more weight.
As you'd expect, a car like the 600LT has some drawbacks. The ride is firm, the vehicle is low and hard to get out of, and the cabin, while upscale, is missing pretty much any modern technology you would expect in a vehicle one-tenth of the price. Are those deal-breakers? Not really. With the McLaren 600LT, you get exactly what you pay for: a high-class, high-speed supercar without compromises for comfort.
Edmunds' Expert Rating
Which 600LT does Edmunds recommend?
The McLaren 600LT only comes in a single trim level, but there's a long list of expensive options for the interior, exterior and bodywork, making it easy to customize the car to your heart's content.
2019 McLaren 600LT models
The 2019 McLaren 600LT comes in a single relatively bare-bones trim. That's by design, as features like air conditioning and an audio system add weight, running counter to the 600LT's entire lightweight, track-focused ethos.

Recalls
2Â recalls foundChecking if a car has a recall is simple. Just type the car's VIN number into the NHTSA website (https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls). If there's an unrepaired recall, you'll see it there.
If a recall shows up, just call your local car dealer. They'll know about the recall and will work with the car maker to fix it for free (if the recall happened within 10 years of the car being first sold).
- Recall Number:Â
- 23V484000
- Number of vehicles affected:Â
- 652
- Defect Description:Â
- McLaren Automotive Incorporated (McLaren) is recalling certain 2019-2020 600LT Coupe and Spider vehicles. The joint between the temperature sensor housing and the hose from the outboard radiator may not be sealed properly, which can result in coolant leaking into the engine compartment.
- Defect Consequence:Â
- A coolant leak in the presence of an ignition source, such as hot engine components, can increase the risk of a fire.
- Corrective Action:Â
- Dealers will replace the coolant hose, temperature sensor housing, and constant pressure clamp, free of charge. Owner notifications letters were mailed September 7, 2023. Owners may contact McLaren customer service at 1-646-429-8916.
- Recall Number:Â
- 21V561000
- Manufacturer Recall Number:Â
- SRC 00 C 0
- Number of vehicles affected:Â
- 19
- Defect Description:Â
- McLaren Automotive Incorporated (McLaren) is recalling certain 2020 570S, GT, 2019 600LT, and 2019-2020 720S vehicles. The brake assembly banjo bolt may be missing the holes that supply brake fluid to the caliper, which would cause the brakes to fail on one corner of the vehicle.
- Defect Consequence:Â
- Brake failure in one corner can cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking, and increase the risk of a crash.
- Corrective Action:Â
- Dealers will inspect and replace the banjo bolt, as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 1, 2021. Owners may contact McLaren customer service at 1-646-429-8916. McLaren's number for this recall is SRC 00 C 001.
