Review

Some things that weren't a problem at the start have become demerits. A number of these pertain to this first-year version of this particular Mazda. The nav got better 2 years later, don't know if the voice control did.

- Voice control for phone calls clunky and slow, wastes time.

- Mileage is always good on highways. This car is most driven around a small city with lots of stop and go, and mileage substantially below EPA estimates here - though this may be true with all competitors too - I don't know. It looks like 22 mpg in town in colder months, closer to 24 mpg in town during spring and summer, here in the midwest.

- Some small missing things do grate after several years: 1) no lock on glovebox, 2) storage lack in front, and 3) power buttons on doors didn't light at night on this 1st year model, though I think they did 2015 on. Small but annoying.

- This car had 1st year model annoyances - rear window rattle in cold winter (fixed under warranty), and 2 recalls. Otherwise it has been reliable.

- There is a visibility issue that emerged over time: front pillar is very wide and, in a town with stop and go and many pedestrians, real care needs to be taken with the blind spot it can create on left turns

- Needed more color variety in interior, this was greatly improved in the 2016 one with complete dash makeover, but I wish it had been done for the '14

-OEM tires on this car very poor, and wore poorly - Mazda could have sold 5k more of these cars per year ditching these atrocious Dunlops

Beloved features of the car: 1) great seats, 2) great looks, 3) fit and finish still excellent, no rattles, interior materials wear very well, 4) rear cross traffic alert - would never want another car without this, 5) ergonomics, and 6) solidity of car, sense that the original build of this car in Japan was superb; feels like it will run well a very long time.
