M3 5 door--Budget Sports Hatchback
By B. Hunt on

2008 Mazda 3 New s Grand Touring 4dr Hatchback (2.3L 4cyl 5M)

The only car in its class that I seriously considered. I wanted a real nice, fast, sporty handling hatchback with great reliability and decent fuel economy that wasn't more than $21,000 in my driveway. That's what I got with the Mazda 3 GT 5-door.

Best Features

Fast, handles great. Wants to be driven hard--lives up to it's reputation as a budget BMW. Surprisingly roomy interior. Nice rear seats. Bose stereo is good (not the best, but good). Overall package is way nicer than my previous Subaru Impreza Outback Sport.

Worst Features

Stickier tires for better handling. Redesign drivers position so the center console doesn't intrude into your right leg (That gets really annoying). Work on better gas mileage-- I'm averaging only 22mpg, and I'm not beating on the car. I've never gotten over 28 mpg, even on long highway road trips
