2010 Mazda CX-9 SUV Grand Touring 4dr SUV AWD (3.7L 6cyl 6A)

Review

We bought this vehicle to replace a 10 year old Ford Expedition. We test drove a Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Chevy Traverse. The Mazda CX-9 wasn't even on my radar screen but my husband suggested we take a look. It has the look and feel of a luxury vehicle. We were very impressed with the smooth ride, handling, and spaciousness. The inside is much more roomy than the outside would lead you to believe. We purchased the Grand Touring model with all the bells and whistles and still came in well under $40,000.Getting the same features on the Chevy Traverse would have cost us almost another $5,000. Thus far we have been very happy with this purchase.

Best Features

Blind spot monitoring system is very helpful; the memory seats can be programmed for three different drivers

Worst Features

Wish the gas mileage was better but we knew what we were getting when we decided to buy. Would also be helpful if the side mirrors automatically adjusted with the memory seats.

Review

Most of these reviews are glowing so I'll just list the faults. Brushed faux aluminum on the inside of the door scratches easily and looks terrible. Plastic coating on the floor runners that the rear seats slide forward/backward on scratch, peel and flake after a few months and look terrible (although still function fine). Getting to the fade function on the stereo is way too difficult (requires 3 different button pushes to change, not intuitive either). Also we have water entering into the passenger floor area beneath the dash when cornering to the left. After some online research this appears to be due to a clogged sunroof and evaporator line from the AC. Pending resolution...

Worst Features

poor mileage is for real very little room behind the 3rd row seats.

Review

Replaced an '05 Trailblazer. CX-9 is far superior in quality, style and fun factor. Much quieter and better fuel economy than the blazer 6 cyl. The leather seats, and orange dash glow was very easy to read and attractive. Very quiet and great handling on the road. Acceleration was powerful and smooth. No jerky downshifting when trying to merge. Bose sound is a premium. Bluetooth is a must in today's 'connected' environment. This is my first new Mazda and I look forward to a great driving and ownership experience. We got the 2010 Touring FWD. I also did aggressive braking and acceleration and was very impressed. A 'Zoom-Zoom' 4 sure. Beat the Traverse, Edge, Sorento easily!

Best Features

Style, performance and handling. *read above.

Worst Features

Traverse has better mileage, but worse acceleration (Traverse weights more). Suggest squeezing a few more mpg out of the CX-9. I've read they will do just that on the 2011 models. But, I didn't want to wait for those!

Review

We looked at Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Acura MDX & Mazda CX-9 when it seemed that our next car should be a family car. Loved my Acura 3.2 TL Sedan but Acura MDX was priced out. Highlander and CX-9 were the finalists and CX-9 won in aesthetics and functionality. Based on reviews, we didn't get the Navigation & wanted to avoid the 20" wheels of the Grand Touring, so got a Touring. Leather is OK. Would like better in-dash NAV since the Garmin 1350T we bought is nowhere close to the Acura NAV we had 10 years ago! Our dealership seems to have a deal with ADS(?) who will install a better NAV (Kentwood) with warranty. $1600/$1900. Yet to try. Paid $30,200.00 with 60 month no interest.

Best Features

Been driving for about 2-3 weeks. Beautiful exterior, decent ride, car like drive, enough legroom in the third row. I don't like to drive large cars but CX-9 is very comfortable to drive. Storage/legroom is adequate for all rows. Love the bluetooth!

Worst Features

No climate control in the 3rd row. Didn't get radio upgrade and the 3rd row speakers do not seem to be working. Yet to contact dealer. When 2nd row middle seat is being used, there should be a pullout cup holder option. Make auto lift gate (hatch) opener standard across board!! Regret not getting it.

Review

Coming from an Acura Owner who did a lot of research and nearly bought a MDX, the CX-9 is without a doubt the best bang for the buck. Cargo room, ride, build quality, everything is top notch.

Best Features

Interior fit and finish. Aggressive styling. All around value in class

Worst Features

Gas mileage (but what do you expect from a 4500 lb vehicle)
