Used 2004 Mazda 6 Sedan Consumer Reviews
Giving It A Whirl!
I just bought my Mazda 6 this weekend. I'll give an update in a few months : ) So far, I'm loving it!
Decent Enough
Bought new in 04. 60K miles so far. Replaced all 4 tires and brakes and changed the oil regularly. Luckily no big problems. It's a good looking car that's fun to drive. I have the sport package with the automatic tranny (wish I got the manual). I like the car but the rear tires get cupped if you don't rotate them often enough. You also have to be careful washing it that you don't break off the cheap antenna (oops). When she's clean she gets lots of looks. There is also a little hesitation with the automatic tranny when you punch the throttle and it's very annoying. But still, a nice family car that doesn't look like one.
Mazda6 S 5 speed
Had it since new and would like to have more power with better gas mileage (don't we all?). It's been fantastic mechanically with only putting brakes on it and changing the oil. Still has the original plugs at 96000 miles!
Total Package
I am the 2nd owner, bought it with 67000 miles. Currently 76,000 in a little over 8 months. Had a 97 Prelude (auto trans) previous to this and I can say that this car handles just as predictable as the Prelude, which was lowered 2 inches all around. It has just the right amount of power to merge onto the highway, to cruise on the open road, as well as passing someone on the highway. I have the manual tranny and so far haven't had any problem. I do experience starter squeal from the clutch dust in the bearings, as well as a defunct CD player, and my fan control module went - causing the engine to overheat. The car does have its reliability issues, other than that, its a great all around car.
Would Buy Another Tomorrow If I Had To
I purchased my Mazda 6 in August of 2004. Has a 5 speed manual with sport package and Bose stereo. I have had zero problems with this car. Regular oil changes, new wipers every year (live in snow belt, CNY) and had to buy snow tires and new performance radials (I'm a sales man). I just rolled over 63,500 on the car and have had no major repairs with the exception of the front wheel bearing. Performance is excellent and gas mileage is great. Can't complain with 400 miles on a tank. Why anyone would buy anything else boggles the mind. Great quality and reliability for the money. The car was rear ended by an F150 at a red light, was fixed and no-one got hurt. That's reliability to me!
Good, but not that good
I purchased my Mazda in Jan of 2005 new. I was a great price and I could not resist it. However, the had problems within the first year of owning the it. I had to replace the tires after 20K of driving. In year 2 I had to replace the breaks. I also noticed that I was getting less than 300 miles to the tank, which was pretty sad considering I drive mostly highway at 70-75 mph. Now, I am by no means an aggressive driver these types of issues should not happen in such a short amount of time. In year 3 my battery died, but what got me was that I had to replace the shock. I traded this one in for a Honda, but I think I got a lemon on this one.
Not too bad
Bought car new. I think the automatic shifter is a little sloppy. When traveling at slow speed (like slowing down to turn) if I give it the gas to zip through my turn it will kinda lag. Or not downshift as I feel it should. Note if in manual mode no issue whatsoever. At 73000 miles my wheel bearings went. This turned into a month long nightmare with another area dealer trying to fix it. Took 4 return trips for them to finally figure out that one wheel bearing they replaced was bad. And by that point they also had to replace a hub as well. But they did get it fixed and not charge me any extra to fix. All in all I do like this car. If you like playing twister then getting into car should be ok
Great!!
I love this car!!
Recall Poster Card
Not since the Ford Pinto has a car been recalled so many times. I have owned the car less than a year and it has already been recalled 4X. In addition the clutch failed after 8 months. The car has been in the shop for approximately 2weeks total. The dealership has been good in fixing the problems and has provided a loaner car but the quality definitely needs improvement. One other thing why are there no rear speakers, this is almost unheard of to have only two front speakers.
Worst Car I have ever owned
Riddled with problems. Built-in fogging problems, rattle ,visor, alignment, etc. Buy this if you want headache. Expect to visit the dealor a lot for warranty repairs.
A really fun-to-drive family sedan.
I REALLY enjoy driving this car. The handling is really tight and the car LOVES twisty roads and high revs. Pluses: Driveability, seating comfort, performance (at high revs). Minuses: Base-level stereo is only OK, turning radius is wide, fuel economy is mediocre (~24). The interior is nice if a bit bland, but the seats are quite comfy. The controls and gauges are well-designed and easy to reach/read. Coming up on 17k miles and everything is still tight, no rattles, so reliability so far has been good. I marked down the performance because of a slight lack in low-end torque, but with the 5-speed sport-auto transmission it's easy to keep the revs where you want them when you want to really drive.
Mazda6
After I wrecked my 02 Maxima, I wanted another sport sedan that wouldn't break the bank like the Nissan.....this Mazda 6 is a worthy replacement. While the V- 6 lacks a little power (compared to some other cars in it's class), it handles much more like a sports car than the Nissan ever did. The "fun-to- drive" factor is definitely high with the Mazda 6.
Great Car!
The "fun to drive" rating is no joke. I love getting behind the wheel. I dream about it. I upgraded from a '00 Ranger, so it has plenty of performance for me. The 6 is a good buy for the money. I went with the luxury package, sport package w/spoiler, moonroof, and the Bose package plus a few add ons -- more features than I honestly expected to be available and my sale price was still under $25K.
great fun for the money
great handling, good performance, good price,needs6th gear as 3300 rpm high at 75mph.only bad point is brake dust all over wheels every 400 miles.Gas milage not as good as previously owned Chysler Concorde3.3 on the highway.Great fun to drive quotion makes up for it though.
Fun car, but don't get cloth upholstery
Purchased the 6s 5 speed loaded with everything but leather. After 9,000 miles and six months of ownership my impressions are: - great handling for a 4-door sedan. - very comfortable ride for a sport type suspension. - needs more low end torque, but really moves out once you hit 3rd gear. - engine idles very quiet. - Bose stereo option is very good but not great. - the cloth seat coverings are starting to fray and pill. I should have gone with the leather.
EXCELLENT CAR
GREAT CAR! THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS VEHICLE IN A V-8!
amazing mazda
This car is a great all around fun to drive car. its got enough power to get up and go, and it beats a lot of the competitors
Awesome ride
I think the 6 is the best midsize car to come out in a long time I have always loved Mazda's but when this came out it caught my eye it has the interior of a $40,000 car, It has the exterior of no other it's sporty and stylish and beautiful.
Mazda ZOOM!
Overall, its a great vehicle. Given the price/performance/features when compared to Acura, Nisssan and others in the $30K range, at $24 fully-loaded, the Mazda6 cannot be beat! However, the torque output is a bit low at 192. A 3L engine should output at least >200 ft. lbs. Additionally, the torque curve needs to be flatter with all torque available at 3000 RPM. With that, this car would be unmatched.
A great car
Theres not much I can add to whats been said many times before: Very fun to drive, comfortable, great looking and affordable. I have no complaints.
NOT BAD
THE ONLY THING THAT HAS TO GO IS THE ANTENNA IS TO LONG. GETTING OUT OF FIRST GEAR SOMETIMES IS NOT TO SMOOTH SO AM GIVING IT THE BREAK IN PEROID...
Fun to drive
This car is a true sports sedan. It has ample power and Great Great handling. The 5 speed auto transmission with manual shifting is just more fun. This is the first car the seat adjusts to fit me at 6'3"
zoom zoom boom
Had the car 38 days cell went bad. waited 96 days and they still had not got the part I am in the process of lemoning the vehicle.
FUN-FUN!
I love this car! It is awesome and it's so much sportier than the 626 ever was, which was what I drove before. I agree Mazda is still managing to keep the ZOOM-ZOOM in their cars to make them FUN-FUN-FUN!! I especially like the 6 because not only is it fun, it's safe for my 3 year old son to ride in!
L's Six
This is the best sports sedan I have ever owned including my Maxima and my Camry. The interior and exterior styling is awesome and the handling is out of this world. Mazda has manufactured a top-of-the-line sports sedan for a very reasonable price. The only thing that I can see that could be improved is the sound system.
Best Car I ever Owned!
I've had Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas and VW's. This Mazda 6S fully loaded with shiftronic is the best car I've ever owned. It is extremely stylish, roomy, fun to drive, comfortable and quick. Love the sound of the dual pipes with the manual auto shifting. Bravo Mazda!
Two weeks in a Mazda 6
Rented a Mazda 6 for two weeks and traveled mountains and plains in Montana, Yellowstone and Idaho. The automatic with manual shift option came in handy in the mountains. As a four cylinder it strained a bit on steeper inclines, but otherwise buzzed along at 80 mph with ease on Interstates and 75 on ordinary roads. But the car is quiet and quick and well worth considering although less refined than my Accord.
mazda 6s
I was in the market for an Altima or Accord Coupe. I was very interested in a sporty, reliable car. That is when I started to look at the Mazda 6s. I read as much as I could about it and the quality is excellent. The performance is equivalent to my old '99 Maxima 5-spd. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchse.
looks and drives great
i owned my 2004 mazda6 S for about two months now and i really enjoy driving it. It looks great and gets all the attention. it is a 5 speed and shifter feels very good. I can't even compare it to a honda or toyata because Mazda did a great job and overcame the others. Luxury package and sports package is a must on the Mazda6. I recommend it to everyone. My "zoom zoom" is a 5 speed steel gray mazda6 S. How do you want your "zoom zoom"?
Great Car
I just go rid of my GM car and purchased a M6s sports package. I have had it about a month now and love every second of it.
Mazda 6 S
I compared the Acura TL, IS300, G35, Passat, and others before making the Mazda my choice. I was dead set on a V-6 so the S model was the only choice, too bad I didn't know gas would rocket up! After looking at all the comps, and for the price, the Mazda was the best choice in bang for the buck. I commuted and wanted something with some zip (or Zoom Zoom), the reason for the v-6 and just couldn't bring myself to pay the extra $10K for a TL, IS300, or G35. I got it all in a Mazda. I think Mazda is the sleeper; in 2004 when I bought my car you just didn't see that many Mazdas. So 27000 miles later, I still like my car, nothing is broken except for the wallet for owning the V-6. It's still fun!
Great Car but don't buy one
Purchased a new '04 less than 2 years ago. Loved the car for the price until clutch started to judder so bad car was not drivable. Mazda TSB 05-003/05 describes defective clutch plates. Mazda will not cover repair because car is more than 1 year old. Don't be left holding a $1300 repair bill for a defective car. Buy a Honda.
Money Pit!
I bought this car at 45,000 miles. Car looked great and seamed to be in good running order. That was a joke. I've had the car for just under a year and had to have it towed to the dealership three days ago because the motor just gave out. I bought the extended warranty when I bought the vehicle so it should be covered right? Wrong... They are trying to stick us with the bill because they say a motor just can't go out like that we had to do something to it. What a mess. If you but a Mazda6, Be careful. You get what you pay for. My next vehicle will be another Honda.
mine
Great car fun to drive, dependable looks great.
