Overview
Sporty large luxury sedans have been around for decades, but recently automakers have been introducing even sleeker models. You could likely credit Maserati as one of the pioneers when it reintroduced the Quattroporte (Italian for "four-door") in 2003. Now there are several alternatives to choose from, each with its own personalities and advantages.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2020 Maserati Quattroporte S 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.93 per gallon for premium unleaded in Virginia.

Avg. Large Car
The 2020 Maserati Quattroporte sets itself apart from its German rivals with a distinctly Italian flair. This is due in no small part to its engines, which come from sister company Ferrari. Add to that the striking Maserati trident logo in the grille and some flourishes inside, and the Quattroporte manages to feel special. At least on appearances.
On closer inspection, this latest Maserati can't compete with the sturdy construction and impeccable materials quality of its German counterparts. It's also not quite as well rounded as some rivals, suffering from a stiff ride quality and a dated design that lacks a lot of the coolest new luxury sedan technology features.
The Maserati Quattroporte has its subjective merits in its Italian roots, but the other European luxury sedans have it objectively beat when it comes to performance, comfort, quality and features.
Which Quattroporte does Edmunds recommend?
We're certain that for many shoppers that may be considering the Quattroporte, the V6 engine will be more than adequate. The thing is, for most shoppers in this segment, adequate isn't enough. That's why we recommend the GTS models that come with a powerful twin-turbo V8. Within this range, the GranLusso is the best pick for luxury-minded buyers.
2020 Maserati Quattroporte models
The 2020 Maserati Quattroporte is a five-passenger premium luxury sedan that is offered in three main trim levels: S, GranLusso and GranSport. Within these trims, clients can add the Q4 all-wheel-drive system. GranLusso and GranSport trims can also be upgraded to the V8-powered GTS specification.
The standard powertrain has a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 (424 horsepower, 428 lb-ft of torque) that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. GTS models get a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 (523 hp, 524 lb-ft). Q4 all-wheel drive is not available with this engine.
Standard features highlights for the S trim include adaptive LED headlights, soft-close doors, adaptive suspension dampers, adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and a collection of advanced driver safety aids.
The GranLusso is more luxurious and adds features such as upgraded leather upholstery, ventilated front seats and power-adjustable pedals. Opting for the S GranSport brings sporty exterior and interior styling treatments and sport seats. Q4 and GTS variants have heated rear seats.
Many features are available as options on supporting trims. Other add-ons include various interior and exterior trim elements, 21-inch wheels, four-zone climate control, and a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system.

The car is fantastic!.
Kevin Ode, 12/04/2015
2014 Maserati Quattroporte GTS 4dr Sedan (3.8L 8cyl Turbo 8A)
This car is absolutely fantastic! It drives great, is blazingly fast (much faster than the specs would indicate) and inside and out gorgeous. We have driven over 6k miles now and the quality is much better than expected (no rattles and everything feels solid; Feels German, looks Italian, great combo!). There are only 2 complaints: 1) The 21" wheels come only in summer tires (there are … winter tires available, but why not great all weather tires, like my 911 has?), and the traction is terrible when temperatures are below 40. You really have to deal with the nonsense of winter tires, even in Atlanta (must be the global warming...).
The 2nd and much bigger problem is the terrible support from the dealers. We have 2 dealers here and they don't seem to be too interested in returning phone calls. Even the Maserati Importer cannot get a hold of them. Just go there, get in their face and they will tell you that the (simple) recall items will take 3 days to complete and they will give you a nicely equipped Mazda 6 as a loaner... Their service is worse than that of a "reasonably priced car" dealer, absolutely unacceptable for a luxury car brand. Maserati, please go see how Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Audi do this.
I have seen many complaints about borrowed parts (such as the Navigation system and window buttons, which come from Chrysler), but I couldn't care less. It all works well and other car companies (VW - Audi, Chevy - Cadillac etc.) do the exact same thing, no biggie.
Update: still loving car, Dealer support has been greatly improved. They now have Ghibli’s as loaners and response time is good.
Maintenance, as is to be expected, expensive: New tires, every 10 to 12,000 miles, $2500, oil change every 12,000 miles, $500, new brake pads every 20,000 miles, $1700 (front and rear).

This a drivers car, not really for techies!
Stephen D, 09/15/2018
2015 Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 4dr Sedan AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
If you want all the best new gadgets, you want fancy tech option (which you will rarely if ever use), this probably not a good choice (look at the A8, S550 or 750). But if you want a head turner with a race car spirit that is shear joy to drive, hear and walk out to morning and night then the QP6 should be at the very top of your list. Forget the naysayers, I’ve found most negative … reviews are from people who are either not really able to buy and retain the car, have jealousy issues and/or are looking for the car to be something it was never trying to be.
It has been about a year and I have now noticed a few small items that seem to be gremlins that my mechanics cannot figure out. Because there are no dealers around here this has been a real pain. I've also noticed some issues with the dash that should not happen on a car that costs this much. I've had many cars before and never had a bubble form in the dash...but alas no warranty and no dealer so I guess I'm stuck with it.
2 years later: still a great car but does come with technical/mechanicals difficulties and if you do not have a dealer nearby that can properly service the car; it will cause you great complications.

2018 Maserati Quattroporte S GranLusso 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
I leased this Maserati in July 2017. The color is type of gray named as "Grigio ". in side is mixed brown leather and silk by famous Italian suit designer Ermenegildo Zegna. It is a heavy large sedan. It is very roomy inside. Although there are few parts from Chrysler, but those mixed with very nice stitched leather, and it really doesn't bother me. I enjoy much every morning turning on … the engine and hearing the load raspy sound of Ferrari built engine ! The seats are not too sporty like BMW or Porsche with lots of side support. They are just fine ! It takes time to learn how to use the shifter. Now after 9 months I am doing great on changing gears with shifter- no steering wheel shift paddle- If you drive more than 30 miles a day you will pay much for gas, and need more maintenance , and maybe not a every day driving car ! You don't need to show off and push the sport button for loader engine note, other cars will slow down to just take a look. Many times I heard " This is a really beautiful car " ! Formidable luxury the original race-bred luxury sedan you can drive everyday- so far no single problem. I pay about 6o $ every 2 weeks.

Car is a constant head turner

2014 Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 4dr Sedan AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A)
My 2015 Quattroporte has been an absolute blast to drive, I drove an S550 sedan before and the two cars are very different. The Maserati is a drivers car, the wind noise at 60 and above is surprisingly loud but the roar of the engine is louder. My S550 was so comfortable, quiet, smooth & responsive but the day I traded it & I left the dealership in the Maserati I felt special. If you … want a car that makes going to the market an event test drive a Quattroporte. One caveat though.... more expensive than my Benz for all service, parts & repair
