2026 Lexus ES Hybrid

While SUVs have largely overtaken cars as the body style preferred by car shoppers, there are a few traditional four-doors that buck the trend and continue to make a favorable impression with our test team. The Lexus ES is a great example: This midsize sedan consistently earns high scores for its comfortable, luxurious driving experience and its competitive price. It's this model's continued success that led Lexus to redesign the ES for 2026. The new ES is roomier and has a revamped infotainment system that's easier to use. And here's another big change: Every 2026 Lexus ES will be a hybrid or fully electric.

The ES 350h is the newest generation of ES hybrid. It gets up to an EPA-estimated 46 mpg, which is great for a big sedan like this. New for 2026 are the all-electric ES 350e and 500e. These versions have the same styling and interior as the 350h but have a battery pack and electric motors under the bodywork. Promising spacious accommodations and a driving range of up to 300-plus miles, the EV variants are the ultimate expression of the ES as a quiet, comfort-focused luxury cruiser. The Lexus ES occupies a unique space in that it's either larger than similarly priced vehicles or more affordable than similarly sized vehicles. For the ES 350h hybrid, midsize competitors include the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Genesis G80 and Cadillac CT5. That said, none offer a traditional hybrid powertrain (though some are available as plug-in hybrids), and most cost many thousands of dollars more.
