Quirky, but loved anyway
By Red Rover on

2003 Land Rover Discovery SE 4WD 4dr SUV (4.6L 8cyl 4A)

Test-drove it and had to buy it.
Instead of a labored acceleration from
stop, the Disco accelerates with ease
and relative quiet. The turning radius
is more than acceptable. Braking is
excellent. For such a tall SUV,
body lean during cornering (even
without the touted ACE option) is
minimal. As stable and sure-footed as a
billy goat off-road, but refined enough
to serve as a daily-use vehicle. Road
noise is minimal, and the suspension is
neither too stiff OR too soft. Drives
like a wet dream in the rain on city
roads, so don't let anyone ever tell
you that it's useless in town. Whether
towing, mudding or hauling, what a
capable vehicle.

Best Features

The unique profile - in a sea of copies, the Disco's design stands out Stadium seating DUAL power sunroofs - snazzy The Range-like dual-pocket headlamps, new for '03 The SE-style wheel - very sharp Full-size spare and wheel, incorporated into design

Worst Features

Higher MPG Focused interior map lights Interior trim - Lacks modernity, borrow some Range flair Standard in-dash CD changer Navigation display More visibility out rear window - window's large, but due to spare and read headrests the view isn't Solid sunroof shades Fold-flat rear seats
