Overview
Can Lamborghini keep making decadent 12-cylinder supercars in a world obsessed with fuel economy standards and greenhouse gas emissions? And even if it can, should it? The all-new Lamborghini Revuelto answers both questions with a resounding 12-cylinder-exhaust-wailing "Yes!" We admit, the thought of a plug-in hybrid-powered supercar had us searching for the face-palm emoji. But there's no denying that the Revuelto's 1,001 horsepower, sub-3-second zero-to-60 time and extroverted styling are up to the task. The Revuelto is the new pinnacle performance car in the exotic brand's model line, replacing the outgoing Aventador, and it fully embraces that role.
Edmunds spotlight: 12 cylinders, three electric motors and 1,001 hp
When introducing hybrid technology, most automakers see it as an opportunity to shrink engine size and/or cut cylinder count. But Lamborghini isn't like most automakers. Ever since its first supercar — the Miura — Lamborghini has placed a V12 between the front and rear axles, and we're glad it is keeping the trend going with the Revuelto. By itself, it makes 814 hp and revs to an outlandish 9,500 rpm. Two of the three electric motors are mounted at the front axle, each powering one wheel. The third is positioned above the transmission, and this motor is capable of powering the rear wheels "depending on the selected driving mode and the conditions," according to Lamborghini. Put it all together and you get 1,001 hp. Just don't expect your hybrid Lamborghini to get great fuel economy. The EPA estimates that it'll get just 12 mpg in combined city/highway driving. La dolce vita!
Competitors to consider
There aren't many $600,000-plus, 1,000-horsepower supercars to pick from, but if that's your bogey, you could consider the similarly priced Ferrari SF90, with a 986-horsepower twin-turbo V8 offering similar 0-to-60 mph acceleration. And if you're going V8 anyway, Lamborghini's new hybrid Temerario offers 907 horsepower for about half the Revuelto's starting price. Seeking 1,000 horsepower on a budget? The new Corvette ZR1 is even more powerful than the Revuelto (1,064 hp) and costs less than $200,000.
2024 Lamborghini Revuelto trim level differences
The 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto is an exotic two-seat luxury supercar available in a single trim. The standard and only powertrain combines a 6.5-liter V12 engine with three electric motors and a 3.8-kWh battery pack to produce 1,001 horsepower and 1,044 lb-ft of torque. That power travels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to a standard all-wheel-drive system. As a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), the Revuelto can, technically, drive on pure electricity for about 5 miles.
Which Revuelto trim does Edmunds recommend?
The Revuelto only comes in a single trim, so the real quandary is how to customize it. Lamborghini offers more than 400 exterior colors and nearly 100 interior colors through its Ad Personam personalization program. There are also exterior and interior carbon-fiber trim packages and various wheel finishes, along with driver assistance options and high-tech features like a passenger-side touchscreen display.
