The 2025 Kia Seltos is stylish, roomy, and available with plenty of features. It's got plenty of acceleration, too, as long as you get the optional turbocharged engine. But its tech looks dated, and other SUVs in the class are more comfortable.Read full review

Pros
- Plenty of cargo space
- Lots of features for the price
- Paint choices add personality
Cons
- Front seats aren't very comfortable for long drives
What's new
- Rear parking sensors are now standard on EX and SX trims
- Minor updates to feature availability
- Part of the first Seltos generation introduced for 2021
Overview
The 2025 Kia Seltos is one of the brand's most affordable vehicles. Slotting below the Sportage and above the Soul, the subcompact SUV is a more affordable alternative to the larger Sportage and is a solid choice for those who need an SUV that's larger than the Soul or need all-wheel drive (a feature the Soul lacks). Unlike most of Kia's SUVs, the Seltos doesn't offer a hybrid engine, but it does offer a more powerful turbocharged engine in the top two trim levels. After last year's refresh, Kia only made minor updates to the Seltos for 2025.

Edmunds spotlight: Stylish, tech-forward and roomy
The Seltos sports a sleek and distinctive design for a little SUV, and you can complement its style with one of the available two-tone exterior colors. Tech features are the highlight of its interior, including the dual 10.25-inch screens that are standard on all but the base LX trim. They are among the largest in its class. The midlevel EX trim comes equipped with several driver aids and a wireless phone charger. A Bose audio system and Highway Driving Assist, a semi-automated driving assistance system, are standard on the top SX trim. The Seltos' interior is roomy for an extra-small SUV. It's large enough for tall passengers and has one of the largest cargo areas in its class.
Competitors to consider
The 2025 Seltos is a compelling choice for an extra-small SUV, but it's up against several competitive rivals. The Volkswagen Taos and Chevrolet Trailblazer are two of our favorite extra-small SUVs. Like the Seltos, the Mazda CX-30 is stylish and offers a strong turbocharged engine. The recently redesigned Hyundai Kona and Subaru Crosstrek are other strong performers that should also be considered. To help you decide if the Seltos is right for you, make sure to check out our test team's in-depth review in the Edmunds Expert Rating below.

Good
6.4
out of 10
We drove the 2025 Kia Seltos on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
Driving experience
5.7/10
How does the Kia Seltos drive? We tested a top-of-the-line Seltos SX, which comes with the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and all-wheel drive. Acceleration is sluggish from a stop, but once underway, the Seltos delivers peppy acceleration, making it pretty easy to get up to highway speeds. The transmission shifts smoothly and quickly, which helps to make the Seltos a breeze to drive in city traffic. Handling and braking performances are both average for the extra-small SUV class, and the Seltos is easy to maneuver in tight spaces.
The Seltos' boxy shape means good visibility in all directions, and for tight quarters, the backup camera offers a helpful wide-angle view. Plenty of advanced driver aids are available — though most are tied to the top-of-the-line SX trim — and while they all worked without fault, some of the systems were a bit on the conservative side, beeping and warning us well before we felt it was necessary.

Comfort
6.1/10

There's a fair amount of road noise that enters the cabin, and the climate control system is a little weak when it comes to thoroughly cooling the cabin on hot days.
In-cabin tech
7.8/10
How’s the tech? The Seltos' 10.25-inch infotainment screen, which comes standard on all but the base trim, has easy-to-read graphics but looks dated. We much preferred using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto instead of the onboard navigation system for routing to our destination. Annoyingly, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard with the smaller 8-inch screen, but once you upgrade to the larger unit, you have to rely on a wired connection. We were impressed with our test vehicle's Bose audio system; it produces clear sound and punchy bass. Charging devices is easy thanks to an available wireless charging pad and multiple USB-C ports for front and rear passengers.

Buying Tips for the 2025 Kia Seltos for February
Looking to buy a 2025 Kia Seltos? Here are some ways to get a great deal:
- Buyers can expect to pay about 5.1% less than the sticker price on average, translating to approximate savings of $1,431 across the model's price range.
- There are no cash rebates or special incentives for this model at the moment.
- With over 400 new Seltos vehicles available nationwide, most trims have considerable inventory, allowing more room for negotiation.
- The new Seltos models tend to spend over 200 days on dealer lots. This slow-selling pace can offer buyers more leverage in price negotiations.
- Consider leasing the Seltos, with the EX trim offering monthly payments starting around $401 and a due-at-signing cost of roughly $2,901.
- If buying used, the lowest displayed dealer price is roughly $19,576, providing a budget-friendly option.
- With over 450 used Seltos vehicles available, the ample supply may lead to better negotiation opportunities for a pre-owned purchase.

Storage & cargo
7/10
How’s storage and cargo? You can hold a lot of stuff in the back of the Seltos. It's one of the leaders in its class with a maximum cargo capacity of 62.8 cubic feet. Leave the rear seats up and there's still 26.6 cubes. Loading cargo isn't a hassle thanks to a wide liftgate opening and decent cargo depth. As an added bonus, there is an available power-operated liftgate.
Interior storage for front passengers is sufficient. There are plenty of water-bottle-size pockets, a small cellphone tray in front of the gear shifter, a small console box and a glovebox.

Value
7.2/10
Is the Kia Seltos a good value? The Seltos is a better-than-average value for the class thanks to its long list of standard features. The top SX trim is pricey, but it adds a lot of stuff, including the turbocharged engine. Build quality is solid, but the interior materials lack substance and the abundant plastic makes it feel a tad cheap. Newer SUVs in the extra-small SUV class feel a lot more substantial for similar money.
Kia's limited and powertrain warranties are fantastic. You get five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.

MPG
5/10
How’s the fuel economy? The Kia Seltos has two engine options. We tested the SX, which has the more powerful turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive. The EPA estimates this combo will return 25 mpg in combined city and highway driving. That's below the class average, though one of the models with a less powerful engine and front-wheel drive gets a more respectable 31 mpg combined. In real-world driving, we think you should be able to match the EPA's numbers without much effort.
X factor
5/10
The Kia Seltos looks a little bit like a Land Rover Evoque SUV, and you can enhance its style with contrasting roof and body paint colors. It definitely stands out in the extra-small SUV class. The rest of the package isn't very inspiring. But is it practical? Definitely.
2025 Kia Seltos trim level differences
The 2025 Kia Seltos is available in five trim levels: LX, S, EX, X-Line and SX. You'll generally get progressively more features on each one, plus a more powerful engine for the X-Line and SX. Compare the 2025 Kia Seltos trim levels in-depth.
Which Seltos trim does Edmunds recommend?
The midlevel EX trim hits the sweet spot in the Seltos lineup because it offers the most value. For a small premium over the well-equipped S trim, the EX adds several features including synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a wireless phone charger and rear parking sensors. A sunroof is optional.

2024 Kia Seltos EX 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
The Kia Seltos is a SUV gem. Tons of extras including all wheel drive, little to no road sounds while driving, heated seats, power seat for the driver, with a spacious interior and great gas mileage. I’m averaging around 34.5 miles while driving in town and on the high way. A bargain and the warranty is terrific. If your looking for a compact suv give this one a test drive.
Genuinely surprised by how much I enjoy this car

2025 Kia Seltos SX 4dr SUV AWD (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
After almost a year of searching and test driving all sorts of new cars at different brands’ dealerships, I just purchased a brand new Kia Seltos at the highest level SX trim. Which is still somewhat crazy to me since I had never heard of the Seltos, nor would I have even considered a Kia even just a few weeks ago to replace my aging Jeep Liberty that was now 20 years old and in … desperate need of retirement. This “SUV” is the perfect size for me, easy to park, has handled the terrible snowy Northeast weather roads with no issues, and has been overall FUN to drive with the surprising amount of “pep” this little 4cyl engine has. I have not seen anything else that looks remotely close to the Seltos in a market that’s oversaturated with enormous yet somehow still classified as “sub-compact” sized SUVs. Its unique design was another deciding factor for me and it really does look stunning inside and out.
I was about to pull the trigger on a Mazda until the sales manager dropped the ball, so I decided to explore other options and was pleasantly surprised to find the Seltos. This Kia feels infinitely roomier; I have more than enough cargo space and at no point do I ever feel cramped in this car. I can’t say the same about the CX30 I test drove and I’m only 5’3. In fact, this is why I almost bought a CX5 even though it was “more car” than I needed when we already have a larger Honda SUV in this household. I’m getting just as good if not better MPG with this Kia at the highest turbo trim than I would have with the Mazda at a non-turbo trim.
The lack of a heated steering wheel here in the US market is a total bummer, but I’ll probably resolve that issue with a sub-$20 cover from Amazon. I would have gladly paid extra for the heated wheel and ditched the “mood lights” as I am an adult now whose rave days are over. I do appreciate the premium Bose sound system however - definitely spring for that and the AWD turbo engine with additional safety features if your budget can swing it. If the “gentle brown” tan interior was available with my “pluton blue” exterior color, and the black roof could be combined with the sun/moonroof weather package, this would have easily been an over-10/10 vehicle for me.
Even though the turbocharged Seltos doesn't have "great" gas mileage compared to its competitors, it's still significantly better than what I used to get from the Liberty’s awful 10-14 MPG. The Jeep wouldn’t even hit 200 miles on a full tank that also had more fuel capacity than the Kia’s! Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and consider this an absolute steal in terms of value, considering that I had never even considered anything other than a more expensive Honda, Toyota or Mazda for my next new car purchase. The only concern I have is reliability as I’m totally unfamiliar with Kia, but the 10-year limited powertrain warranty from the manufacturer is also way better than what I’ve seen from any of the other brands. And let’s face it, pretty much anything would have been more reliable than a Jeep (thanks for nothing, Stellantis! And RIP DaimlerChrysler)
Honestly, the Honda CR-V Hybrid was probably the car I liked the most out of all the cars I test drove. However, it also cost about $15k more than the top trim Seltos I just bought. I wouldn’t be able to make up that difference in cost with gas savings in the way I drive. And the CR-V didn’t even come with a spare tire which just really, really bothered me for some reason. Because the Kia Seltos isn’t popular in the northern NJ/NYC metro area where I'm located (I’ve seen maybe 2 others on the road compared to hundreds of CR-Vs and CX-5s), I was able to negotiate a great OTD price at my local dealership which brought this to well within budget. This includes factoring in a “faster” brand depreciation factor which probably doesn’t matter in this case; I hope to drive this vehicle for a very long time.
I do miss the additional height the Liberty had, and the absolute "VROOOMM!" it used to growl every time I fired up that V6 engine, but I don’t miss all the problems that came with an aging vehicle that outweighed its value. The advanced safety features on the Kia Seltos SX trim are a really nice upgrade. But then again, I drove a very low-tech Jeep that had a key ignition and no backup camera so take that with a grain of salt.
Ultimately, the best way for you to decide if the Seltos (or any vehicle, really) is the right car for you is to go out and test drive it along with several other models and brands that have all the features you want within your budget. That’s how I stumbled upon this little gem despite putting hours of research into other cars by reading copious reviews online like you are right now. I hope this review will help you make an informed decision as you continue your car-buying journey and wish you best of luck with your new set of wheels!
Great styling, electronics and a joy to drive

2024 Kia Seltos EX 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
Picked up this brand new 2024 Seltos SX with all the packages. The dash is full LCD display without the typical boring dual round speedometer and Tachometer. The display above the wheel has so much information and has a background that mimics the current weather you are in. If it is stormy, you see dark clouds with lightning. So cool! The electronics are mind blowing and haven’t figured … them all out yet. It has a large 11 inch display for navigation with split screen for backup etc. It has lane assist and cruise control that keeps you a distance behind the car in front. Almost self driving but it expects your hands on the wheel and will politely signal to put your hands on the wheel. It has three modes of driving, normal, sport and smart. Very responsive off the line. It feels like you are driving a vehicle from the future. We bought this car after selling our Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD with hemi 5.7L engine. Was shocked that my first fillup was only $28.00.
Everything is perfect for me!

2024 Kia Seltos EX 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
I love all the safety features, it even drives itself! My husband and I are both tall, he is 6'9" and fits comfortably. It has great acceleration and gas mileage so far is doing ok at 24 mpg, I have only made short local trips so far. Handling is responsive, controls are well placed and intuitive. The only thing I wish it has is a heated steering wheel. Seats are heated and cooled … both.
