2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 4dr 2WD SUV (3.7L 6cyl 4A)

Review

I have had no problems with my Liberty
after buying it new from the
dealership. I initially felt that it
pulled to the right when driving on
the open highway. My dealer got it in
and adjusted the alignment. I have no
complaints about the mechanical
performance. Overall my expectations
have been met or exceeded after 18
months of ownership.

Best Features

Having a clear sight of the road and the really tight turning radius are my favorite features.

Worst Features

I feel they could improve the comfort of the seats.

Review

Unfortunately, I just had a pretty
significant accident in my Jeep. Almost
$10k to repair. I work in insurance and
just knew I would going to hurt the next
day. I handle multiple claims daily
with much less damage and the passengers
are very sore. Guess what!?!? Not even
a spot of pain for me and my passenger!
With the amount of damage, that is a
miracle. I don't care what crash
ratings say or anything. This vehicle
took great care of us.

Best Features

Spoiled by the heated leather and radio controls. I will never live without these options again. I'm short so the ability to adjust the seat height/tilt is great.

Worst Features

Unfortunatly, the vehicle is too good at heating and cooling. The problem is, even with the controls off, air still comes out of the vents - no matter which way you turn them. They need a vent shut off as well. Fuel economy really needs to improve.

Review

More problems in 2 years than my
Cherokee had in 11. Bought it for NE
winters, doesn't like cold. Sounds like
a diesel first 1/2 mile after a 0 deg.
start ("they all do that"). Pwr St.
pump screams 1-2 sec. Draft under the
dash not fixed in 2 winters. Recalled
for airbag wire and replace LOWER BALL
JOINTS! Steering moans when hot.
Suspension creaks & groans cold & hot.
Leather worn after very gentle use
(pass. seat used maybe once a week).
Wicked in cross wind-constant
corrections. Door lock won't open <15
deg. Trans whine. Usually keep cars 10+
years, will replace this after 2. Live
in a cold climate? insist on an
extended test drive in winter.

Best Features

The interior styling is pretty attractive. The SelecTrak system is very good except for the transfer case noise.

Worst Features

Own up to the problems this vehicle has and fix them. If they all have the same problem, then of couse "they all do that"!!!

Review

We bought this truck for ICS chili
cookoff trips. I added a Wilderness
rack by Garvin, (Rocky Road Outfitters)
to add more room. I love the on road
(55100 miles) and the off road
capabilities of this truck. The full-
frame/unibody construction makes it
tight and strong, yet it can flex
better than ANY SUV in its class.

The future of my Liberty is bright.
There will be an ARB bull bar bumper
and winch added for sure. Maybe a Rocky
Road OTT 2.5" suspension Lift and some
real tires (see below). Anyway, we
will be keeping this Jeep for many many
years!

BTW... I get 20mpg fully loaded, with a
Wilderness rack on the roof, when I am
on the highway.

Best Features

It's a real rugged off road capable JEEP. The Select track transfer case is excellent. The "oddly cute" styling is great. While not a sports car, it will put many gt cars to shame on twisty roads; I've done it many times.

Worst Features

Increase ride height so bigger tires 245/75-16 would have been perfect! can be fitted. Maybe introduce a "Rubicon" version of the Liberty to sit beside the Rubicon Wrangler!!

Review

Good car, but the brakes are not as
responsive as my former car (Altima-
anti-lock brakes).

The ride is a little too bumpy for my
taste. Any little bump, and your
shifted around in your seat. Not meant
for around-town driving that I do.

Best Features

Lots of cup holders; good AC; Dealership was extremely friendly (Superior in Anniston, AL.). I like how the back window can pop open and the hooks on the backseat to attach items. Good for a bumpy-riding car; very nice detail.

Worst Features

Make the drive more smooth. Improve the braker system.
