Used 2006 Jeep Commander Consumer Reviews
Great ride
Very nice comfortable ride. Appearance is similar to a Hummer. Roomy in the front but the back is very compact. Passengers in the back have very little leg room.
The Perfect SUV
The only problem with the Commander is poor fuel economy. Otherwise, this is the perfect SUV. Larger than the typical mid-size SUV but not obnoxiously big as most full-size SUVs. The Commander drives great in adverse conditions, such as rain and snow, and always feels under control. The 4.7 V8 offer plenty of power and it rides and handles great for an SUV. I leased mine and will either purchase it after the end of the lease or buy a new one.

Great Vehicle
I bought this vehicle the first month it came out and I have no regrets. The gas mileage is not exceptional and there have been several minor problems with the windshield seal but other than that, this vehicle has been a pleasure. My only regret is not having the option at the time to purchase a vehicle with the flexfuel option.
New Owner with 4 past Jeeps
Drives like a Cherokee (what I wanted). Not great on gas (did not expect it to be). Comfortable, but lots of exterior plastic $$$ in a crash. Visibility good, handling nice. 4.7 enough power, would not suggest a V6. Don't bother with the HEMI unless you do a lot of towing and then of course you should have bought a truck! Lower ground clearance than other Jeeps (4 in the past, each I put over 180K miles on each) Not as rugged as my past Jeeps but still room under the hood as I can at least look into the hood area. Looks like an H3 a little and a Land Rover. Drove both of them and still like the Jeep. GPS does stink. Buy an aftermarket Garmin 2720 and put it on the dash. Sound system is great!
Gas guzzler
I have always driven Expeditions so I was a bit leary about buying this Commander. At first I enjoyed it, just because it was shiney and had the new car smell (you know the puppy smell syndrome) but then I began to realize just how much of a gas guzzler it was and how little power it had. I quickly became very nostalgic for the great 'get up and go' my Expeditions had. I would only recommend this car as a weekend 'run a round' vehicle, not a vehicle for everyday use-unless your last name is Halliburton.
