2006 Jeep Commander SUV 4dr SUV (3.7L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Great standard safety features for any price category. I don't think there is a safety feature out there that this Jeep doesn't have. Performance is acceptable on road and great off-road. Very quiet and comfortable. Best for a family of four that sometimes has to pick up some extra kids to run across town or out to the cabin.

Best Features

Power pedals, heated seats, 4wd

Worst Features

Standard back up camera. Standard cargo rack for the top because if you are carrying 7 you have to put coolers on the roof. Standard tow package.

2006 Jeep Commander SUV 4dr SUV 4WD (3.7L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Love the vehicle (4.7L), the trips to the service department, not so much. 6 trips for "service 4wd system". Finally fixed by replacing internal switch in transfer case. Occasional horrible noise from driveshaft, cause yet TBD. Windows have a mind of their own and occasionally reverse directions in auto up/down. Slow engagement of tranny in reverse after sitting overnight, sometimes creating a loud screech. Significant vibration from an unknown source when turning from a stop. Has stalled several times while backing from parking place. Hopefully, all the kinks can be worked out. Plus side, Jeep finally did something with the Headlights on their vehicles, these babies light up the night!

Best Features

Exterior look. Interior space and design. Comfortable ride, good acceleration and enough power to easily tow my boat. Great driveability in poor surface conditions. Great turning radius. Rear air conditioning helps adjust interior temps to comfortable level quickly. Rear seats adjust easily.

Worst Features

Reliability. Fuel economy could be better but is not bad for an SUV if driven properly. Visability is poor for backing so I keep both rows of seats down when not in use. Stereo system is just ok, but does offer easy attachment for Ipod. Seats stain easily.

Review

Problems began when we drove the car off the lot. Knocking noise from the suspension. It has been back to the dealer 4 times in 9 months. Reoccuring problems with the passenger window not closing, sunroof not closing, front and rear windshield washers not working and also a transmission leak. Today I noticed a whistling noise from what I think is the windshield. My major concern is a hesitation on acceleration. The engine cuts out when pulling out. This is very intermittent and the dealer and the Jeep rep are saying they can't find anything wrong with it. They also said that the 3.7 L engine is too small for the vehicle and this is probably what my problem is. Really hate it.

Best Features

The ride is smooth for an SUV

Where do I start

2006 Jeep Commander SUV 4dr SUV (3.7L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I bought my Jeep Commander in December 2006, and I now have 15,000 miles on it. It has the 4.7 L V8. I just took a trip over 3000 miles, and I have come to know my Jeep Commander's strenths and weaknesses. Strenths include a quiet ride, classy interior, cool retro looks, room for seven if two are children (though my college VP did ride in the 3rd row with no complaints for 5 miles), reliability and cool 6 CD Boston Accoustic stereo system, and decent highway mileage. Weaknesses, so-so city mileage, small third row, blind spot if third row is left up, drinks a quart of oil about every 3000 miles, styling is not loved by all. Highway mileage is 20.6, honest!

Best Features

Love the optional stereo, back up warning sensors, quiet, smooth ride, cool retro look, decent highway mileage. Wife loves cubby holes and storage up front. Adults in 2nd. and kids in the 3rd rows love stadium seats. No. 1 love is the safety of stability and roll control and all row side curtain airbag

Worst Features

The 4.7 V8 should have cylinder deactivation a la the Hemi. Seat mounted side airbags in addition to the side curtain airbags.

Review

I have owned my Jeep for a year now and have had some of the problems found in reviews. Transmission slips and clunks. Main seal started leaking. Windshield whistles. From reverse to drive is a hard clunk when you can finally get it to go. It feels like the car is going to fall apart when you go over a bump. Now the ac is not cooling as well! But the good old dealership says it’s the nature of the beast that every thing is fine! Not quite sure what to do other than keep wasting my time and theirs by bringing it in for check ups?

Best Features

Roomy for the kids

Worst Features

Work out all the bugs before putting a new vehicle on the market
